The first is like fire preventing cold, the second is like smoke preventing cold, the third is like the absence of fire preventing smoke, and the fourth is like not seeing an obvious pot preventing an obvious pot. Because self-nature contradiction and self-nature non-perception are shown as cognizers, therefore, in order, like fire preventing the touch of hail, seeing pervasive contradiction, and like preventing wood preventing the growth of flesh, pervasive non-perception, should also be known as cognizers. Third, if the effect of fire can prevent cold, then can establishing the cause of fire as a sign also prevent cold in the same way? If the direct cause of fire is established as a sign, then the property of the subject cannot be determined, and if only the cause is established as a sign, then the thesis that sees firewood, the cause of fire that is contradictory to cold, as a sign, whatever that is, the subject, is a fallacious pervasion. Because whatever thesis that firewood, the cause of fire, can prevent cold, the reason for fire, firewood, etc., if there is no self-nature contradictory to cold, that is, because it does not exist. This shows that if the cause is contradictory, then there is something that becomes a cognizer, such as the difference of being able to burn, approaching fire can prevent the cold effect of goosebumps, seeing the self-nature contradictory to the cause, and like smoke preventing the cold effect of goosebumps, seeing the effect contradictory to the cause, these two are shown as cognizers. Thus, adding to the previous six, eight are mentioned here, and in the Pramāṇavārttika, in addition to that, like the absence of smoke preventing the direct cause of smoke, non-perception of the direct effect, and like fire preventing the direct cause of cold, seeing the self-nature contradictory to the effect, these two, ten are mentioned. If only the cause of fire cannot prevent cold, then can only the effect of fire also not prevent cold in the same way? The effect of fire that is contradictory to cold, subject, when you prevent cold in some bases, you also need to rely on the fire that is your own cause, the place where it is near, and that time, etc., like a crooked smoke, because you may prevent cold in some bases, and because it is distinguished by place, time, etc., otherwise preventing cold will become fallacious, because in some bases it is not cold, that is, establishing the absence of cold.

It is like taking the opposite result as a sign. Also, using the word "also" to summarize the sign of the result is Shakya's view. Brahmins believe that the opposite cause is not a sign, and the opposite result is not just a sign, there must be a distinction. Elaborate on the fixed number of three. The second part is divided into two parts: refuting the view that others are correct, and refuting the view that appears correct but is actually wrong. The first part is divided into two parts: inferring the possibility of arising from a collection is self-nature, and inferring shape etc. from taste is a sign of result. The first part is: If the correct sign is determined to be three, then how is inferring the possibility of a result arising from the collection of causes included in these three signs? Taking the complete collection of causes of a sprout as a sign, thereby inferring that the sprout can arise, the complete collection of causes of the sprout is the subject. On some basis, taking the result of the sprout being able to arise as what is to be established, this is the reason of self-nature, because that is the correct sign of establishment. The sprout can arise, because it is said to be your self-nature. The sprout can arise, because it does not depend on other causes besides you, but arises from your proximate cause. Then, why not infer that the collection of causes necessarily produces a result? The complete collection of causes of the sprout is merely the cause of the sprout, that is the dharma. You are the one who establishes the result of the sprout on your own dharma, but the pervasion is uncertain, because your producing the result of the sprout is related to your ability to become a result gradually becoming excellent, that is, depending on change. The pervasion exists, because there are obstructing factors here. The second part is: Then, how is the reason for inferring shape etc. from the sign of taste that is not a cause-result included in the three signs? The current taste of sugarcane, this is the subject. The shape and tactile sensation etc. that depend on the same collection of causes as you, on some basis, what is understood from your sign, that depends on the sign of the result. On some basis, you actually infer the nature of the previous taste of your own cause, the ability of the current shape to produce, that is, through the way of establishment, the correct sign established from the power of the shape simultaneous with yourself.
