If someone asks: Is it the same in reasoning? The answer is: It is not that the difference of existence itself, such as the existence of sound, is taken as a reason, but when only the thing itself is taken as an argument to prove the impermanence of sound, then the thing itself is the subject, and it becomes a correct argument to prove the impermanence of sound, because it is established as the property of the homogeneous class of what is to be proven, and in its own similar examples, it pervades its own property to be proven—impermanence, without the fault of lacking subsequent occurrence. The third case is: The existing thing is the subject, on the self-nature, how can the reason establish what is to be proven, it cannot be established, because on the self-nature, what you want to establish, whether it is an existing property or a non-existing property, cannot be taken as a reason. For example, the self-nature itself does not establish having function etc. as an existing property as a property of the homogeneous class, because the existence of the self-nature itself has not been established. The dharma that depends on both existence and non-existence, knowable is the subject, it is not correct to be a correct reason for establishing the self-nature itself as existing in things, because the pervasion that you use to establish it is wrong. The non-existing dharma, such as not being able to function, etc., is the subject, and has the same fault, because it contradicts the existence of things. The fourth case is: Existence itself cannot be taken as a reason, if the existing property is established, then there is no need for knowledge; if both are established, then the pervasion is wrong; if the non-existing property is established, then the pervasion is contradictory. If someone asks: Why? The answer is: If the nature of existence is established as pervaded by the property to be proven, that is, determined, then it is the knowable; if the nature of pervasion is determined from existence, such as impermanence, then the mind also determines that it is the knowable dharma; if it cannot be determined in this way, then the existing property etc. is not the dharma to be proven, because the to-be-proven cannot be established by a reason whose pervasion is uncertain. Therefore, if the reason dharma is determined as the pervader and the pervaded, then when this dharma is reversed, the reason must also be reversed. For example, if it is determined by the subsequent statement that impermanence itself pervades what is made, then if it is permanent, it must pervade what is not made, or if it is determined by the reversed statement that what is not made pervades what is indestructible, then if it is made, it must pervade what is impermanent. The meaning of this treatise is that existence is the argument for establishing the impermanence of sound.

It seems that it can be expressed like using sound impermanence as the reason for establishing that sound is impermanent, which clearly shows the continued meaning of the former. In the Compendium on Valid Cognition, immediately after "like destruction's effect and existence itself," it says "because there is no cause, destruction," because this intermediate treatise did not appear, it is also established. Here, explaining "existence" as a reason is done according to the situation where "existence" and "thing" are synonymous in Indian languages. But in Tibetan, the terms "existence" for exclusion and "existence" in meaning are both explained in the major treatises, so to establish impermanence with "existence," it must be understood as the thing itself. Third, explaining the definitive, independent reason is divided into two parts: showing the reasoning on the example of similarity; applying that reasoning to other things. The first part is divided into three points: establishing the reason; establishing the property of the subject; summarizing the established meaning. The first point is: for the correct reason of the nature sign, if the identity relationship of the self that is inherently related to the dharma to be established is established, then the reason previously stated is established, so how is the dharma to be established, impermanence, inherently related? First, establishing on the example of similarity: a pot, as the subject, its own destruction is related to its own nature, that is, inherently, because its own substantial cause arises from its own substantial cause without depending on other causes. The second part is divided into two points: establishing by extreme inference; establishing by self-continuum sign. The first point is: if it is said that the reason is not established, then objects such as pots, as the subject, must be seen as unchanging, that is, impossible to be destroyed, because their own destruction depends on causes other than their own cause. If it is said that the destruction of a pot has many causes, such as a hammer, so it will inevitably be destroyed, then even so, some pots, as the subject, will not be able to be destroyed, because it is possible that they will not encounter the cause of destruction, such as a hammer. If it is said that even if the later cause is encountered, it is not certain that the cause alone can produce its own result, therefore, all those who say that the destruction of a pot has a later cause, such as the hammer, which you consider to be the cause of the destruction of the pot, are the subject, you
