Apart from the negation of "is" and "is not," other terms arising from sound do not exist. The fifth point is: Regarding pervasive knowables, such as a vase, the meaning of negation is that the basis becomes non-existent. Because for existing vases, one cannot say "that is not on the vase," and negating a vase is not something that can be done for any non-existent vase, and this is due to this reasoning. If it is said that there is no fault, because in some time and place, some things to be negated can be negated, then, in some time and place, some things to be negated cannot be negated. Because when the thing to be negated exists, it cannot be negated, and when the thing to be negated does not exist, the negation will not become a negation. The sixth point has three aspects: engaging in affirmation and negation in the meaning of sound, negating engagement in external object meaning, and explaining how affirmation and negation occur in the face of illusion. The first aspect is: A phenomenon that exists in things can reasonably become the basis for terms of affirmation and negation. However, how can a phenomenon that does not exist in things become the basis for terms of affirmation and negation? If it is said that non-things cannot be the basis for affirmation and negation, then there is a fault. Therefore, the sound meaning that appears to the mind that clings to things without relying on external objects, which relies on things, and the sound meaning that appears to the mind that clings to non-things, which relies on non-things, you want to rely on you, in this occasion of affirmation and negation, to perform all affirmations and negations, because you are the basis that appears to be related to both affirmation and negation in the mind of affirmation and negation. Even if there is no such affirmation and negation in meaning, the phenomenon that appears in conceptual thought, you want to rely on you for the terms of affirmation and negation, because in the face of illusion, you appear to be related to those affirmations and negations. If asked, how is the existence of sound meaning established? The conceptual thought that performs affirmation and negation, the sound meaning that appears to you, even if it does not exist in meaning, can be said to exist, because the sound meaning appears to you solely from the application of sound. The second aspect is: If affirmation and negation are not directly performed on the meaning of sound, but are directly performed on self-characteristics, then, when your phenomena, such as impermanence, are affirmed, or such as permanence, are negated, things like vases will become produced, etc.
