Because it is established by relying on the auditory consciousness that can hear sounds, and it is to show that the power of auditory consciousness harms the proposition of negating the self-characteristic of sound. In the Pramāṇavārttika, an example of refutation by force of reality and subsequent meaning is mentioned here, but it is not mentioned here. Third, there are three parts to explaining the necessity of the basis of refutation being self-established: explaining the three necessities in detail; refuting disputes about the meaning of the necessities; and summarizing the established meaning with examples. The first part has three: explaining the necessity of establishing one's own system; explaining the necessity of dispelling doubts; and explaining the necessity of dispelling wrong views. First: 'Direct perception and inference, and reliable fame, are for self-establishment.' If someone asks, what is the need to mention one's own subject? In short, mentioning one's own subject is necessary. Because at the time of debate or establishment, whenever the opponent himself accepts the dharma to be established, if the subject corresponding to that dharma at the appropriate time is harmed by valid cognition, it will harm the dharma to be established at that time. If another dharma, which is the dharma not accepted by the opponent himself, even if it harms the subject, it will not harm the dharma to be established at that time, in order to know this. The reason for this is that, apart from the subject at that time, even if another subject that does not belong to that time is harmed, it will not harm the dharma to be established at that time, because valid cognition has not refuted what is to be established at that time. Second, if someone asks: If harming the subject at that time, in order to realize that it will harm the dharma to be established at that time, it is not necessary to mention one's own subject, because it has been shown that what one accepts is the self-characteristic of what is to be established, so it can be realized. Answer: Even if one realizes that such a meaning is the self-characteristic of what is to be established, there is another need to mention one's own subject. Not only does harming the dharma harm what is to be established, but harming the subject at that time will also harm what is to be established, because this is the reason for having an established meaning. The reason for this is that if valid cognition harms you, the subject of dependence at that time, it will harm what is to be established at that time, because you are contrary to valid cognition, that is, you are refuted, so what it depends on is the dharma to be established.

because it contradicts valid cognition, it will be refuted. Therefore, if there is harm to the subject of the occasion (chos can), then there is harm to the object to be proven (bsgrub bya) of the occasion. Subject, in order for you to understand, it is necessary to say "one's own subject." In order for you to understand, having said one's own subject, if nothing else is said, it is said that the object to be proven itself is a dharma with such a form, which is the object to be proven. Because it is thought that harm to the very dharma of the object to be proven is harm to the object to be proven of the occasion, and not harm to the subject, there arises a mistaken understanding, therefore it must be eliminated. The third part has three points: it shows that there is a misconception to be eliminated; it explains an example of that misconception; and the way to eliminate it. The first point is: if there is harm to the subject of the occasion, then there is harm to the thesis (phyogs), this also shows that if there is harm to the dharma, then there is harm to the thesis, is it not established by meaning? Yes, because even if there is harm to the subject, there is harm to the dharma. Therefore, if it is said that it is not necessary to say "one's own subject," that is correct. Having said "one's own subject," subject, you also have other misconceptions to be eliminated. Some opponents believe that even if there is no harm to the subject of the occasion, merely denying the subject that does not belong to the occasion, they also admit that by denying one's own subject, it will have the fault of contradicting the thesis, therefore in order to eliminate it, you must say. The second point is: an example of such a misconception, for example, if the Vaisheshikas believe that space, direction, time, etc. are permanent entities, then the Buddhists do not take real space, etc. as the subject, but take general space, etc. as the subject. It is not a permanent entity that is not produced by other conditions and has no prior state, because only the distinction of dharma is established, the reason is that it is not the cause of sound, etc. at the same time, because it does not produce results at the same time. When refuting, they say: that reason can establish the previous object to be proven, and it can also establish the nature of space, etc. as non-existent. Therefore, denying that the subject space, etc. is real, it contradicts the thesis, just like saying this. The third point is: at that time, that kind of reason subject. Subject space, etc. real
