If it is said that fame is not inference, then, because conventional sound only prevents what can be said, that harm, although fame is not something beyond mere inference, it is distinguished from inference involving the power of things, the subject. It is necessary, because the object of fame depends on what can be said, and the object of inference by the power of things is things, in order to show that the difference in objects is different. It is like the previous distinction between credible inference and inference by the power of things in terms of the object. Third, the need to explain in detail the way of refutation is: In this chapter for the sake of others, the examples of refutation of credibility and fame are well explained by the teacher with reasons, the subject. It is necessary, because even if both credibility and fame are established as inferences, when distinguishing them from inferences involving the power of things, scriptures and one's own words become obstacles to self-contradictory vows by the power of being accepted as valid, but not by the power of things; and fame arising from sound is of a nature that arises only from intention, so it is an obstacle to preventing what can be said with conventional sound, in order to show these two needs. In short, the so-called "there is no valid measure of measurable meaning" means that it is refuted only by the one who makes the vow, and "it is extreme fame arising from sound, but not established by things," and so on. Regarding the refutation of harm by direct perception and inference, the subject. The teacher Dignāga said in this chapter for the sake of others, "Sound is not audible," and "The pot is permanent," only stating the vow to be refuted, but not stating the reason for the harm, because it is with regard to the fact that the reason for the harm has already been shown in the chapter on direct perception and self-interest. Second, the explanation of refuting direct perception with meaning and audibility is divided into two: explaining the need to say "meaning," and explaining the need to say "audible." The first is: Regarding the refutation of harm by direct perception, there is also a subject. Here in this chapter for the sake of others, it can be explained slightly. In the Compendium of Valid Cognition, the root verse says "meaning," and in the explanation, the need to say "audible"

Because it can be explained through (hearing). Then, what is the need to mention the word "artha"? The phrases such as "pratyaksha artha" explain the word "artha," there is a need, because sound, among the various contradictory things such as impermanence and being made, is called the self-nature of sound, whether the knowledge of hearing the sound is a generality or a particularity, it appears without difference, that is, the sound self-nature that is different from the generality, here is the object of exclusion, in order to show this meaning. Why does the sound self-nature not have generality and difference? Sound self-nature, you actually do not have generality and difference, because you will not produce the various self-object consciousnesses that appear as generality and difference. Therefore, the sound self-nature that is the object of hearing consciousness, if you deny that you are audible, then the hearing direct perception will be harmed, because you as audible have been proven by the hearing direct perception. The second part is divided into two points: explaining the necessity of distinction. Explaining the necessity of complete exclusion. The first point is: the essence of the sound self-nature that is the object of hearing consciousness, for sound is the ultimate truth, and the rest with contradictory characteristics such as impermanence, etc., are not the objects of sense direct perception, because they are the essence of non-reality. Therefore, the general dharmas such as impermanence, etc., even if you deny that you are audible, will not be harmed by sense direct perception, because you have been proven not to be the object of sense direct perception, this is the master using the word audible as an example of direct perception exclusion to indicate. The second point is: then, if the sound self-nature of the object of sense direct perception is explained by the audible sound, why not directly say it with its own name? The sound self-nature of the object of sense direct perception cannot be directly said with its own name, because in any case, sound is not something that can be directly expressed. In a general way, explaining the sound self-nature of the object of sense direct perception with the audible sound is necessary, because the sound self-nature has been proven by the hearing direct perception, so the sound self-nature exists
