Yes. If the essence has not arisen, then merely focusing on suffering is just knowing that suffering. Because it is considered not to be experienced, therefore at that time, therefore, merely focusing on suffering without experiencing it, then it is the nature of all cognitions. Focus and experience are different, because arising from an object like an object is the meaning of focus, and oneself appearing as the essence of the experiencer is because I am the experiencer. Second, if it is not manifest, then it is too extreme, divided into two: becoming self-mind realizing from signs; showing harm to that desire. The first is: Furthermore, the sense consciousness of one's own grasping of form, etc., existing in one's own mindstream is the nature of dharma. It must become that one realizes from signs, because one's own direct perception प्रमाण(pramāṇa,proof) is not established, and relying on oneself, it becomes a hidden object to be measured. The second is divided into two: refuting that sense consciousness is realized from signs; refuting that mental consciousness is realized from signs. The first is divided into three: examining what is the हेतु(hetu, cause) of sense consciousness; if examined, then the हेतु(hetu, cause) itself is not established; even if established, there is no definite relationship. The first is: If you want the former, then the sign that proves that you have sense consciousness is also the five senses such as the eye? Or objects such as form? Or sense consciousness itself? Or the previous moment of attention? When asked which of those would become a sign, it is not reasonable to realize only those, because self-mind conjunction, etc., are also the cause of sense consciousness, so one should also infer those. If you say: other than the collection of cause sense and object, attention and effect sense consciousness, self-mind conjunction, etc., are the nature of dharma, having a relationship with sense consciousness, because it is not a real cause, so it is too extreme, because the ability to actually generate sense consciousness is not seen. The second is divided into three: the four cannot become signs; the appearance of the object cannot become a sign; the nature of consciousness cannot become a sign. The first is: For the four examined as signs of sense consciousness, the sense is the nature of dharma. Devadatta has sense consciousness in his own mindstream, it is not an established sign, because sense consciousness has confusion, because when sleeping and fainting, you exist but there is no sense consciousness. The object is also the nature of dharma. Like the sense, Devadatta has sense consciousness in his own mindstream, it is established

Because it is not a correct reason, because there is illusion in sensory consciousness. Even if you exist, when you close your eyes, there is no sensory consciousness. Mind and attention are also subjects, becoming non-valid cognition, because they are consciousness. The pervasion is admitted, consciousness is not established by direct perception, and no reason can be found to establish it. If admitted, then mind and attention are subjects, not correct reasons, because they are not established by valid cognition. The second part is divided into two parts: stating what is desired, and refuting it. The first part is: if it is thought that merely things are not reasons, but the appearance of things themselves is the reason for establishing sensory consciousness. The second part is divided into two parts: appearance distinguished by consciousness is not a reason, appearance distinguished by things is not a reason. The first part is: then is the appearance of things the consciousness of the appearance of things, or the thing that is manifested by consciousness? If it is the former, then the appearance of things itself is the subject, Devadatta himself is not established by valid cognition, is it not consciousness? Because it is. If admitted, then the reason for establishing sensory consciousness in Devadatta's own continuum is not a correct reason. This showing that consciousness is not established by valid cognition is the subject, there is also another necessity, because it is also necessary to eliminate the view that the thing manifested by consciousness is the reason for consciousness. How is consciousness the subject, the thing manifested by you is not determined by valid cognition, because appearance is what you experience and is not established by valid cognition. If admitted, therefore it is not a reason. The second part is divided into three parts: there is no difference in appearance on things, even if there is, if examined it is not a reason, in this way the meaning to be established is summarized and shown. The first part is: if it is thought that the appearance of things, is not the consciousness of the appearance of things, but the thing itself in general is some difference that has become apparent later compared to not being apparent before. Things are the subject, there is also no difference that has become apparent later compared to not being apparent before, because there is no arising and destruction. The reason is admitted, if it is not thought in this way, but it is thought that it is arising and destruction, then things are the subject, it will become self-grasping consciousness that arises and destroys in each moment, because you are the producer of self-grasping consciousness, which is arising and destruction. If admitted, it contradicts the view that consciousness is constant and unique. The second part is: the appearance of things
