The sons of the earth element are confused in their coming and going on their own causes. If it is said that the fruit of fire, smoke, can also arise from the crown of fireless Indra, then the phenomenon of smoke should become transcendent of having a cause, that is, become causeless. Because you exist when your own cause does not exist. If you accept this, then the phenomenon of smoke should become either always existing or never existing, that is, it should not become sometimes existing and sometimes not existing. Because it does not depend on other conditions, that is, because it is causeless. The former has pervasion, because all things that arise sometimes and sometimes not arise from dependence on conditions. Secondly, is the crown of Indra the nature of having fire or not? If it is, then smoke should not arise from the crown of fireless Indra. Because the crown of Indra itself is fire. According to the latter, how can smoke arise from the crown of Indra, that is, it should not arise. Because the crown of Indra is not the nature of fire. Pervasion, because the nature of the cause of smoke, only having fire has the ability to generate smoke, while fireless does not have it. Furthermore, the phenomenon of smoke should become causeless. Because it is smoke arising from a non-smoke cause. Thirdly, the nature of smoke should not arise from the crown of Indra, which is of a different kind from fire. Because it is the cause of fire, that is, the reason for being the fruit. Because you follow and cease with fire, therefore you are seen as following and ceasing with fire wherever you are. This verse is a summary verse. The second has three: establishing the relationship of the object to be determined as one, explaining the difference between the basis of determination and the sign, and explaining the independent reason for determination. The first has two: establishing that non-existence of self-nature does not arise, and refuting the difference between dharma and sign. First, although the relationship of arising from that is established in the result sign, how does non-existence not arise in the self-nature sign? Although it has been said before that it is related to the mere existence of self-nature. But to this, some argue that one part of the meaning of the commitment becomes the sign. In order to eliminate this dispute, it is intended to explain the scriptures that show the distinction of excluding others, and it is repeated again.

For example, when proving that sound is impermanent through "being produced," the subject also possesses the property of being a nature sign. If it does not exist, it will not arise, and such a relationship is established. This is because the sign itself exists and is inherently related to the property to be proven. Therefore, "being produced," which exists as the nature of impermanence, is the subject. If impermanence does not exist, then you (being produced) will not exist. This is because impermanence and nature are not different, but one. The second case is: if whatever is "produced" is necessarily impermanent, because the two are not different in nature. If you accept this view, then "being produced" becomes a part of the proposition to prove that sound is impermanent, and is posited as a sign. There are two answers to this question: explain the exclusion of objects from the perspective of sound concepts; explain the exclusion of non-objects from the perspective of sound. The first case has two aspects: proving that it applies by excluding the container; establishing that the exclusion itself is the exclusion of the object. The first case has three aspects: applying by excluding both sound and concept; explaining the specific way sound is applied; showing that both apply to the general case. The first case has two aspects: explaining separately; explaining jointly. The first case has two aspects: applying by excluding the sound concept that distinguishes one thing; applying by excluding the sound concept that combines different things into one. The first case has three aspects: the sign and the subject are appropriate for the object of exclusion; explaining the proof that applies by excluding sound concepts; refuting the argument by examining the reverse and inverse aspects. The first case is that although the sign-property of the nature sign and the nature are not different, it will not become a part of the proposition as a sign, because the three aspects of sign, property, and meaning are different in their reversals. If you ask: how are they different? Then, all self-characterized things such as sound are subjects. They depend on multiple reversals that return from things that are similar to themselves and things that are dissimilar to other kinds. Because without fabrication, they naturally do not mix with others and abide in their respective essences. This reason shows that the multiple reversals are also distinguished by the wisdom of non-inverted exclusion of others. And "all things" shows that multiple reversals can be distinguished for all things. Therefore, meaning and sound are subjects, having the reason for returning from things that are similar non-sound and things that are dissimilar non-produced permanent, sound is produced and impermanent.
