In between the object and consciousness, the subject of debate is: there is no other wisdom or great one, because if there were another great wisdom, it should appear, but it is not seen. The second part is divided into two points: refuting external examples, and refuting internal examples. The first point is: when iron is burned by fire, although the iron block and fire exist separately, they cannot be distinguished. Similarly, although wisdom and experience exist separately, they are mixed together, so they cannot be distinguished. Are they actually different? For all things, the subject of debate is: if it is said that "this is multiple," some are different, and if it is said that "this is one," then the classification of distinguishing different and non-different will collapse. Because it is manifestly considered to be one entity, it cannot be established as one entity. Therefore, what is manifestly considered to be different entities cannot be established as an argument for distinguishing different entities. What is manifestly considered to be one entity cannot be established as an argument for one entity. If it is manifestly experienced that there are no different entities, then it is established as one entity, which is not pervasive. Because what is manifestly experienced as different entities is established as having different entities, it cannot be established otherwise. Furthermore, what is the reason for establishing some things as different and some things as not different? This is impossible. Feeling pain, etc., and white, etc., these five, although they appear in all cases, are not different. But wisdom and experience, although they appear as not different, are actually different. The second point is: in the retinue of one consciousness, when a feeling like happiness arises clearly, although pain, etc., are not perceived as different, they are different. Similarly, although wisdom and experience are different, they are not perceived as different? Mind, the eye consciousness that grasps objects, the subject of debate is: when a feeling of happiness arises clearly in your retinue, although pain, etc., are obscured by the clarity of happiness and not perceived, the classification of feeling happiness and pain as different is established, because in your subsequent special continuum, when a feeling of pain arises, it is seen as different from the previous happiness. Here, most Tibetans explain that in the retinue of a main consciousness, when a mental factor like feeling arises clearly, other mental factors are obscured, even if they are not seen as different, etc., this is mind.

The arising of mental factors, and the fact that mental factors are different entities from each other, is a flaw in the Sautrāntika tenet that is like a thorn in the heart. Furthermore, when a feeling arises clearly, do the other omnipresent mental factors exist or not? If they do not exist, then if the main thing is mind, it will not pervade having the five omnipresent mental factors; if they exist, then is it and feeling the same entity or a different entity? If it is the former, then the desired is established; if it is the latter, although there are different entities, there is no valid cognition of different entities, which seems to be the previous commitment of this side. Therefore, "Different, different, not established," and "Different, different, non-existent, having a basis," why do all such types not become harmful, please think carefully. Therefore, for the continuum of the main mind, it is permissible to arise earlier and later, but for mental factors that cannot arise simultaneously, it is in terms of these mental factors that this treatise is spoken. For mental factors that arise simultaneously, since they are one entity, when one arises clearly, there is no need to obscure the others. Fourth, explaining direct perception of yoga by establishing true clear appearance, as the Sutra of Valid Cognition says: "Taught by the supreme of yogis, only sees the meaning of non-mixture." The supreme of yogis mentioned here is the yoga of selflessness, and the word "sees" should be connected to it. How to connect it? That is, by teaching, that is, in a non-mixed way. What is seen? Only the meaning of the self-characteristic distinguished by selflessness, that is, the meaning of directly seeing selflessness in the Sautrāntika tenet is seeing the self-characteristic of the aggregates distinguished by selflessness, not seeing the meaning of negating self or non-affirming. Therefore, in this treatise, there is also the meaning of seeing non-mixture, which is the occasion for establishing freedom from conceptuality, and the meaning of the supreme of yogis is also the occasion for establishing seeing the meaning of truth, these two situations exist. There are three here: the basis is taught from meditation, the characteristic is established as freedom from conceptuality, and the conceptuality to be abandoned is explained. First, is all knowledge of the yoga continuum direct perception of yoga? If not, then the knowledge of the yogi, that is, the four noble truths mentioned in the second chapter, the wisdom with clear appearance arising from meditating on the sixteen aspects such as impermanence with these four noble truths, is the subject.
