It is unreasonable to hold both happiness and so on as objects to be grasped. Because form and so on are definitely only the objects of the five senses. Secondly, there are three ways to refute (external objects): refuting with the sign of what can be seen but is not seen, refuting with the reasoning of being too extreme, and not refuting the refutation of its faults. The first is: If it is said that blue and so on, the nature of the five senses, as the subject, are grasped simultaneously with happiness and so on, because they are one with happiness and so on. Then, blue and so on and happiness and so on, as the subject, how can they not be different entities? They should be different entities. Because the mind that appears as different entities and is not mistaken should be grasped as different entities. The second is: For many observers, as the subject, there is a difference between wanting and not wanting in the meaning of the external object. For the same meaning, due to the difference in habituation between wanting and not wanting, the difference between happiness and complete suffering arising in each person's mind is impossible. Because the happiness and so on that you experience are the only meaning of the external object that resides in the nature of either happiness or suffering. The third is: If it is said that although the external happiness and so on do not have a special quality that surpasses habituation, the external five are like happiness and so on, and the mind is also the nature of happiness and so on, so it is not contradictory for them to give rise to the difference between happiness and suffering. Then, that is not so. As the subject, how do you know that the external five are the nature of happiness and so on? They should not be the nature of happiness and so on. Because the difference between happiness and suffering arises only from the happiness and so on of the mind. If it is said that the external object is also, as the subject, happiness and so on, because it is the object to be grasped by the mind or the great自在(藏文:ཆེན་པོ།,梵文天城体:महेश्वर,梵文罗马音:Maheśvara,汉语字面意思:大自在) that has the nature of happiness and so on. This is pervasive, because different kinds are not the grasper and the grasped. Then, as the subject, the self, the person of wisdom, will not become the grasper of all objects, because all objects are matter, so they are not of the same kind as them. If you admit it, then, as the subject, it will lose the very nature of being the enjoyer of all objects, because it is not the grasper of all objects, so it is like that. With the reasoning that different kinds are not the grasper and the grasped, as the subject, there is also another necessity, the external object, as the subject, is happiness and so on, because it has the nature of happiness and so on.

Because it is the cause of establishing the appearance of that mind, it is pervasive, in order to eliminate the reason that dissimilar things cannot become cause and effect. How is it? A person, a phenomenon, is not the result of all objects establishing appearances, because it is dissimilar to all objects. If you accept, then it will not become the enjoyer of all objects, in this way. Or, external happiness and so on, and the mind or the great Ishvara, a phenomenon, are not the cause of establishing appearances, nor the result established by them, because dissimilar things do not exist in the nature of grasper and grasped. Even if it is allowed to exist, it will not become cause and effect merely by that. If it becomes cause and effect, then other persons and objects, phenomena, should become cause and effect, because grasper and grasped are that. Third, refuting that happiness and so on are mindless phenomena, there are two: establishing as mind because it is what is to be experienced, and refuting that it is experienced by other experiencers. First, happiness and so on, that phenomenon, is internal, because your nature becomes special after you are accustomed to it. Also, happiness and so on, a phenomenon, is mind, because it is what is to be experienced by the mind. It is pervasive, whatever experiencer whose nature is not the nature of what is to be experienced, that is not the experiencer of what is to be experienced, because it is pervasive. This refutes that mind and mental factors are different entities. Second, there are two: refuting with the reason of not seeing that mind and experience are different, and refuting two examples that show uncertain pervasiveness. First, if the experience that is not the nature of happiness and so on, the appearance of happiness and so on that arises residing in the mind or the great Ishvara by a person of wisdom, is wisdom, not the wisdom of the appearance that arises in the nature of happiness and so on, if you say so. This happiness and so on, a phenomenon, besides the two experiences of clearly experiencing having the appearance of direct perception, and having the appearance of memory connected with conceptual thought and recollection, is there any other mind or great Ishvara in which your appearance appears? There is not, because besides those two, the mind or great Ishvara in which your appearance appears is something that should be seen but is not seen. Why is that? Because it is seen that relying on the meaning of what is desired and the meaning of what is not desired, happiness and suffering and so on, the self-experiencing consciousness and oneness arise.
