Because it appears as various things that can be distinguished, it is distinctive. The appearance of the variegated sense consciousness is indistinguishable, so the reason is not established. The consciousness that apprehends variegation, the appearance of blue and other various colors, is the subject. It is a distinction of consciousness, the nature of experience, and is unique. It does not depend on or is established by other things. Because it appears as various things that cannot be distinguished. It is not possible to see it clearly in a way that can be distinguished. If it is said that the reason is not established, because later conceptual thoughts distinguish and say, "This is blue, this is yellow," and so on. The conceptual thought that makes such distinctions at that time is the subject. It is not that the appearance that appears to the sense consciousness appears directly and makes distinctions. Because if the meaning of the sound appears directly, it will grasp the meaning as its own characteristic, and thus will fall into making distinctions about the meaning. Therefore, the appearance of a single mind that apprehends variegation is the subject. Although it appears as various things, it becomes true in the face of a single consciousness. Because the single consciousness, however it appears as various things that cannot be distinguished, is merely experiencing that appearance. If that is the case, it is for that reason. Second, just as the various aspects of consciousness are indistinguishable, are the blue and yellow colors of cloth and butterflies, etc., also one substance? The colors of cloth, etc., are the subject. Like the various aspects of consciousness, they will become indistinguishable, because they are one substance. If it is said that what is distinguishable is a variety of parts, but not something with parts, then the colors of cloth, etc., are the subject. The variety of parts that are different is excluded. Because there is no whole apart from that. Because there is no difference other than the difference of parts, there is no other difference of wholes seen by valid cognition. Third, if many atoms do not gather, and there is no single substance with parts, then just as atoms are independent, even if they gather, will they become unable to be objects of sense consciousness? Many atoms that have arisen with the distinction of gathering with other atoms from the state of not gathering are the subject. It is also acceptable to be the object of sense consciousness all at once.

If transformation also has contradictions, then what contradictions are there? There will be no contradictions. Even without a substance with parts, it can still simultaneously aid the sensory consciousness. For example, the three causes such as the senses are of different types, so even without a substance with parts, sensory consciousness can still be generated. If it is said to be a cause, but it will not become the object of sensory consciousness, then, for the three causes that generate sensory consciousness, the sensory consciousness is the image generator that appears as what kind of image among those causes, this is the subject. It is called the grasping of the non-erroneous sensory consciousness, because for the non-erroneous sensory consciousness, it is the cause of the image generator. This is pervasive. Apart from the entity of the cause that generates the image of that consciousness, there is nothing else called the object of grasping of that consciousness. Third, it is impossible to simultaneously grasp snot, etc., which has two points: stating the conclusion, and refuting the defense of error. The first point is: the consciousness that recognizes a white cow as a cow, this is the subject. How can one simultaneously grasp the cow with its own parts, snot, shadows, etc., and become a cow with parts? It is impossible to grasp simultaneously, because in reality it is impossible to grasp simultaneously. If you admit it, then this consciousness is the subject. It is impossible to see the white cow being recognized as a cow, nor is it possible to see the white cow having shadows, etc. The second point is: if the cow and its parts are the subject. Although they are multiple substances, it is believed that one consciousness can understand them simultaneously, because they are multiple that have become qualities and the main thing, i.e., differences and possessors of differences. This is pervasive. Like individual atoms, one does not simultaneously grasp multiple things that have not become differences and possessors of differences. But for those that have become differences and possessors of differences, even if they are multiple, one can grasp them simultaneously. Then, one consciousness is the subject. It is impossible to simultaneously grasp the cow together with all its parts. Because it is impossible to simultaneously grasp the parts of the cow, because the parts of the cow are multiple that have not become differences and possessors of differences. Furthermore, the parts of the cow, such as the ears, possess qualities such as blue, as well as the generality of the ears themselves, and actions such as movement, this is also the subject. One consciousness cannot grasp them simultaneously. Because they are differences and possessors of differences.
