Because various appearances converge into one. If you assert that the nature of appearing, which appears as things but is actually unreal, exists, then, regarding this, as the subject, what is the point of me refuting false appearances? Because it will not be refuted. Because the proponent of false appearances' own view has already been established. Therefore, the appearance that relies on sense consciousness, as the subject, wanting to grasp objects, and wanting to hold knowledge, is not truly existent either internally or externally, because it has already been refuted that the essence of knowledge is real, and also because the essence of objects is not real. The reason the latter is established is that the nature of coarse appearance, as the subject, coarseness is not truly existent in one substance, because it has already been refuted that coarseness is one substance; and it is also not truly existent in many atoms, because for each individual atom, you are impossible; and because for many assembled things, there is no single essence. The second point has two parts: appearing as duality is mistaken. Therefore, the emptiness of duality is the reality. The first part is: The Mind-Only proponent says, because there are no external objects, there is no grasper and grasped that depend on them, but does the single knowledge that appears as grasper and grasped exist in reality as it appears? If so, then, sense consciousness, as the subject, your appearance as grasper and grasped is not truly existent as it appears, because your appearance as grasping, which completely cuts off the appearance of blue etc. as the grasped, is internal knowledge, and the appearance of the grasped, which exists like external blue etc., is an imputation that appears due to the influence of habit, which is a part other than knowledge. Therefore, for the essence of knowledge that appears as blue etc., the mind that appears as different grasper and grasped, as the subject, is a corrupted mistaken consciousness, because it appears as different for things that do not have different grasper and grasped. The second part is: The single knowledge that appears as grasper and grasped, as the subject, both the aspect of the grasped and the aspect of the grasper that depends on it disappear, that is, become unreal, because the aspect of the grasped alone is not real. Therefore, all knowledge, as the subject, whatever is empty of the two different grasper and grasped, that is its suchness or reality, because it is merely self-awareness that is empty of the two grasper and grasped. Here is the basis for the Mind-Only school's debate about truth and falsehood.

The appearance of becoming an object is diverse, and establishing this appearance as "appearance" and "coarse appearance" is specific to the situation. That is, for sense consciousness, at its own time, the apprehended image of blue, yellow, etc., appearing at a distance. The Sautrāntika and the true-aspectarian (Satya-ākāra-vādin) consider this to be the nature of consciousness and to be truly existent. The false-aspectarian (Asatya-ākāra-vādin), however, considers it to be an untrue fabrication in both meaning and consciousness, as the scripture says, "Howsoever one thinks, so is the meaning." and so on, and "Therefore, for meaning and consciousness." and so on, and "Who can distinguish things?" and so on. Therefore, it is known. In Tibet, the aspect that has become the basis of the debate between true and false aspects is considered to be an aspect that is neither included in the apprehended aspect nor in the apprehending aspect. Even if it is considered to be the apprehended aspect, in the view of the false-aspectarian, it is also considered to be consciousness. Of these two main erroneous views, the former is refuted by the reason of "should appear but does not appear," and the latter is refuted because there is no realist who does not admit that consciousness is truly existent. The view that the apprehended aspect pervades consciousness is the tenet of the Sautrāntika and the true-aspectarian. If one understands the key point that non-consciousness pervades the apprehended aspect in the view of the false-aspectarian, then when Sakya Paṇḍita establishes the apprehended aspect as the measure in the view of the true-aspectarian, self-awareness is the result; and when he establishes the apprehended aspect as the measure in the view of the false-aspectarian, self-awareness as the imputed one is the result, which can also be understood effortlessly. Therefore, because there is no apprehended, there is no apprehender. The view that emptiness, which is empty of both apprehended and apprehender, is the reality, is the same for both true and false-aspectarians, but the way of understanding is different. The true-aspectarian believes that because there is no external object of apprehension, there is no apprehender dependent on it. And they believe that such emptiness, which is empty of both apprehended and apprehender, is the reality. The false-aspectarian, on the other hand, further believes that for the same consciousness, the apprehended aspect that appears as apprehender and apprehended does not truly exist, so there is no apprehending aspect dependent on it. And they believe that such emptiness, which is empty of both apprehended and apprehender, is the reality. In this system, in general, the apprehending aspect is not truly existent, because there is self-awareness, so it must be established through the apprehending aspect. Therefore, in this view, when establishing the measure and result of a single sense consciousness, in conventional terms, meaning
