The respective meanings are that other numerous dust-like companions are manifestly related and gathered together. Through it, from the individual dust particles that do not have the ability to generate sense perception, other dust particles that can generate sense perception are produced, in order to explain those numerous dust particles that will become that kind of dust particle. Therefore, the phrase "focusing on accumulation" does not mean that, as a phenomenon, the general category is the object of sense perception, thereby showing that sense perception is conceptual thought, but because the numerous special dust particles that gather together are the cause of the arising of sense consciousness, it is merely showing it as the object. Secondly, the treatise of Master Vasubandhu is also like this, it is not showing that sense perception is conceptual thought by showing that sense perception is the object of the general category, but because sense perception names the numerous special dust particles that gather with other dust particles as "general," it is merely explaining that it is the object of that. The numerous special dust particles themselves are considered to be the object of sense perception, because if the individual other dust particles are not gathered, then the special dust particles also do not have the ability to act as the objective condition of sense perception. If there is not that, then sense perception is not necessarily grasping a single dust particle that has not met, but it is certain to grasp the numerous objects that have met each other. The third is divided into two: debate and answer. First, if numerous dust particles gather to produce one sense perception, therefore becoming one sense base, then numerous dust particles should not be grasped simultaneously by sense perception, because they are numerous things. Therefore, if knowledge grasps numerous things, then it must be grasped sequentially, therefore it is considered that sense perception is the object of the general. The second is divided into five: it is not possible to grasp sesame seeds etc. simultaneously, it is not possible to grasp mottled colors simultaneously, it is not possible to grasp lumps etc. simultaneously, it is not possible to know various things in other places, and there are also others who grasp numerous things simultaneously. The first is divided into two: establishing the thesis and refuting other answers. First, for numerous sesame seeds and barley etc., how does it appear to be grasped simultaneously? It should not appear, because they are numerous different things. Second, if knowledge sees sesame seeds etc. sequentially, but because the entry is rapid, it grasps simultaneously.

If it is said that it appears because of quick entry, then this "appearing simultaneously" is the subject of the proposition. You are unreasonable, because it has already been said that you would also hear the letters simultaneously, which is very excessive. Furthermore, sesame seeds, etc., falling sequentially from the sky downwards, that itself is the subject of the proposition. How would you not be apprehended by the sense consciousness in a non-sequential, simultaneous manner? It should be apprehended, because the sense consciousness enters quickly for you. Furthermore, all consciousnesses are the subject of the proposition. How is it that some of them appear to apprehend non-sequential objects, while others appear to apprehend sequential objects? It should not be so, but rather it should only appear that all apprehend non-sequential objects, because the time of their arising in continuous succession is the same. If you accept that, then for the consciousness that apprehends all things, this object should only appear as non-sequential and simultaneous, because the speed of entry is the same. The second part has two parts: stating the contradictory consequence, and refuting the unestablished reason. The first part is: If it is impossible to apprehend many things simultaneously, then the many blue, yellow, etc., colors of butterflies, peacocks, and printed fabrics are also the subject of the proposition. How would they appear simultaneously in consciousness? They should appear, because they are not many different substances. The second part has two parts: criticizing the tenet that asserts multiplicity as one, and showing the proof that multiplicity is not one. The first part is: If you say that the reason is not established, because the various colors of the butterfly's pattern are a single substance with limbs, therefore it can be seen. Then, this tenet that asserts multiplicity as one is the subject of the proposition, and is even more amazing than the butterfly's pattern, because it is even more of a joke. The second part has three parts: because it is multiple, it is not one; stating the proof of being multiple; and refuting the argument based on coarse appearance. The first part has two parts: stating the reason, and refuting other answers. The first part is: The blue, yellow, etc., of the butterfly's pattern are the subject of the proposition, and are not the nature of a single substance, because they are multiple substances, like the shape of a pile of many different kinds of jewels. The second part is: If you say it is not the same, because when piling up many jewels, one distinguishes and says, "This is blue, this is yellow," etc.
