If asked, what is the reason that even though one sees it directly, one cannot ascertain it through subsequent conceptual thought? Answer: In the case of directly seeing things arising from causes and conditions, sometimes, as the subject of the law, although one directly sees the impermanence of that thing, conceptual thought cannot fully understand it, because after the moment of that thing, there are other similar things existing without interruption. This is pervasive, because the arising of similar other things causes confusion, so the previous and subsequent moments of things are considered different, that is, there is no certainty. For example, although different eggs exist in reality, the root consciousness does not see them as different. Here, some people use the example of "although the root consciousness can see the different eggs before and after, conceptual thought cannot determine that they are different," which is unreasonable, because it must be admitted that the root consciousness that appears as a wheel due to the rapid rotation of a torch is not confused. The arising of similar other things is the cause of constant confusion, because based on this reason, without relying on reasoning, from the wise to the child, everyone completely determines the later arising similar things by directly seeing the destruction of unrelated lamps and other things. The third example is: even if one sees it directly, one cannot ascertain it through subsequent conceptual thought, for example, seeds and other things, as the subject of the law, because your ability to produce sprouts has become your nature, so although it is established by seeing your direct perception, sometimes one may be confused about this ability, so it may be uncertain, because the direct perception of seeing you does not see the fruits, sprouts, etc. arising from you, and the dharma that distinguishes you from the inability to produce sprouts does not appear in the object of direct perception, because sprouts do not arise immediately from you. The fourth is: the reasoning and inference stated to prove that color is impermanent and that seeds have the ability, etc., as the subject of the law, are necessary, because it is to eliminate the confusion caused by the arising of similar other things, etc. The fifth is: for the great wise one who is free from the causes of confusion that mistake colors and other things as permanent, as the subject of the law, there is no need to use reasoning and inference to prove that colors and other things are impermanent in front of you.

Hey, because you directly see colors, etc., with your own eyes, and from this arises a definite understanding that determines all aspects of impermanence, etc. If things and their impermanence are not different in meaning, then how can they become dharma and possessor of dharma? Because there are not many different dharmas in meaning, the possessor of dharma, like sound, is the possessor of dharma. And many wisdoms with reasons for returning from different inversions, and different sounds, etc., that are distinguished, will exist as if they have different supports in meaning. Even if it is one in meaning, it is because it returns from all different kinds of unmade, permanent, etc. Therefore, sound, etc., are possessors of dharma. If you do not have the cause of confusion of holding onto permanence, then after the direct perception of seeing you, there is no need to use the sign and inference to prove that you are impermanent. Because if you do not have the cause of confusion of holding onto permanence, then you, by your own nature, generate the wisdom that determines the impermanence that is in accordance with yourself. Third, for the school of one destruction, there is also inference. As mentioned before, or for the school of Vaisheshika, etc., which claims that the destruction of things is impermanence, the measure that determines color as impermanent is the possessor of dharma. It is not a measure other than direct perception and inference, because at the time of seeing the last moment of color, from the sign of not seeing the previous color, the destruction of color is established, so it is inference. The reason is established, because in their school, when the thing that arose earlier disappears and becomes invisible later, it is said that the thing that arose earlier is impermanent. Fourth, incidentally refuting the way other schools claim impermanence, there are two parts: first, state the opponent's view and then ask its meaning; examine the two extremes of the question and then refute it. First, neither the Vaisheshika nor the Samkhya school believes that the mere existence of things is impermanent, because if so, then the sky, etc., would also become impermanent. Nor is it just a thing, because it is not related to things, so it cannot obtain the name "the impermanence of this thing is this." Therefore, the sound of impermanence itself is determined between the two extremes, that is, the existing things such as color, etc., that are now in the middle exist, their aggregation
