The self-nature and the temporary, that (self-nature and temporary) is the subject. How can things, that is, self-nature, become one, and not become not one? Because they are two entities, having difference and not having difference. If the proponent says: Are those general characteristics of the same things that appear, in meaning, different from those appearances? The general characteristic is the subject. It becomes unrelated to the general characteristics of those appearances, because it is another meaning that does not depend on the appearances. Second, if it is said: That fault also exists in you. The refuting general characteristic is the subject. You cannot refute it in meaning by being the same or different from the appearances, because it does not exist in meaning. Third, for this general characteristic, it is the subject. The characteristic of not having things is the self-nature, because it is the same as the appearances and follows them. Pervasive: If it is the same general characteristic, then being the same entity or a different entity with the appearances, whichever it is, has been prevented. Fifth, there are two: If it is a result, it is harmed by three faults; if it is not a result, it is harmed by two faults. First: If the general characteristic is a thing, then is it a result or not a result? If the general characteristic is a result, then the general characteristic is the subject. It becomes multiple and perishable, because it is the result that pervades multiple appearances. However, this is not what is desired, because it is desired to be unique and constant. The general characteristic is the subject. It is not constant, because it is the thing of a result. Pervasive: Because perishability is related to the thing itself and its own nature. Second: If the genus is not a result, therefore there is no fault, then the genus of the cow is the subject. It is not related to the appearances of the cows, because it is another entity that is not the result of the appearances of the cows. That (the genus of the cow) is the subject. It becomes a non-thing, because it is not a result. Sixth, there are two: Showing the pervasiveness and establishing the reason, refuting the statement that the reason is unestablished. First: The conceptual mind that holds the general characteristic is the subject. Your appearing object is not a thing, because you do not have such an appearance that does not depend on the memory of your own object, name and meaning. Pervasive: Whatever consciousness is produced by the power of the thing of the apprehended meaning does not depend on the memory of names and meanings. Second: If the reason is unestablished, that is, for the horse and the cow, the white and the mixed color, holding the general of the cow.

If you think this way, you won't generate the wisdom of perceiving the general. Even if you don't understand the two things, white stripes and black curves, you will generate the wisdom of perceiving the general concept of a cow. If you think so, even when you see the two things, white stripes and black curves, some minds don't recall the concept, but then a non-differentiated, general-perceiving wisdom follows, then, the dharma that is the basis of this (wisdom) is not produced from the general thing, but because it is close to and related to the meaning of the appearance of the cow, so it is produced from there. For example, even if there is no category thing, the consciousness of the senses has results, just as it is thought that when the three conditions, such as the eye, which are the cause, are close, the consciousness of the senses will arise. If there is no category thing for the appearing cow, then how does the category exist? The two things, white stripes and black curves, are also followed by the category of cow, because by the cause of not producing the result of a cow, it can be distinguished from things that are not cows, so it is like that. The seventh (part) has two points: establishing the reason, refuting the argument. The first point is: the general, as a dharma, is not a thing that does not depend on appearance, because no matter what kind of reasoning method is used, in the consciousness that holds itself, your (general) thing will not appear. The second point is: if the senses have form, they will also become things that do not depend on external objects, because you (the senses) will not appear as things that do not depend on them. If you think so, then, the dharma of the senses having form, if you have an observer like a noble one, then your body will appear, because you are a thing with form that does not depend on external objects. If the general is the same, then, the categories, these dharmas, even in the direct perception of the noble ones, do not appear as not depending on appearance, because apart from appearance, there is no thing that can appear independently. If you think that when you see the appearance, you also see this general, then, when holding the appearance of a cow, the consciousness of the senses will not see the general thing of the cow, because apart from the sound of the cow, that is, the name, color, and shape, etc., there is no other general appearance. The eighth (part) is: this general, as a dharma, cannot even play the role of merely generating the consciousness that holds itself, because it does not appear independently of the consciousness that holds itself. Therefore, the general, as a dharma, is established as not having the nature of a thing, because
