Abandoning attachment to future lives, merely the rituals described in scriptures, and karma and body that cannot serve as powerful antidotes, these three are called [useless]. Others establish the path to liberation of their own school and refute the path to liberation of other schools, dividing them into these two situations. Abandoning attachment to future lives, contemplating power etc. as suffering, recognizing the difference between power and self,厭惡 suffering, and arranging the rituals described in scriptures and karma and body that cannot serve as powerful antidotes into a series, these two are the ways to act as antidotes. If one does not distinguish the refutations of other schools that are applicable in each of these two situations, but focuses on practicing the key points and insists that this treatise is specifically for debate, then that is not right. I, by the blessing and good words of Sakya Pandita, do not have the burden of being confused about the key points of logic. Third, apart from the above, there is no antidote for karma and body, which has four points: abandoning karma and body has no necessity or function; refuting the existence of an antidote to eliminate karma; avoiding contradiction with the desire to eliminate karma; avoiding the similarity of cause and effect of karma and affliction. The first point is: just as the antidote to abandon affliction is the path, the antidote to abandon karma and body should also be the path, because karma, body, and affliction are all the cause of arising. If someone thinks like this, then for those who seek liberation, it is not enough to abandon only karma and body, because there is no antidote to abandon only these two, and without abandoning craving, there is no ability to abandon these two. The reason is established, because if craving exists, karma and body will arise again. If someone says that one should strive to exhaust both craving and karma, then for those who seek liberation, even if they strive to exhaust both craving and karma, the effort made to eliminate karma is meaningless, because abandoning craving will not produce karma. The second point is: because there is no antidote, the reason [there is no antidote] is not established, because asceticism can exhaust the power of previous karma. If someone thinks like this, then the flawed karmas can be inferred that their ability to produce different results is different, because they are seen to produce various different results. Therefore, the affliction of asceticism, that is, the entity of suffering.
