If asked, what is the cause of attachment to myself? That dharma of attachment to myself, is the cause of your attachment to me. Because merely your existence can, from the arising of the object-cognizing consciousness within the branches, such as the faculties, naturally give rise to attachment to me. Third, being unable to abandon due to aversion arising from suffering, is divided into two points: showing that aversion is not detachment, and refuting the fault of not having detachment. The first point is: if it is thought that because one sees the faculties etc. as suffering, aversion arises towards them, and thus one becomes detached from that object, then, a person with self-grasping, who in this way sees some objects as suffering and arises aversion, that dharma of aversion, is associated with hatred, and is not detachment. Because at that time there is also attachment, because one seeks happiness at other times from suffering. Therefore, that hatred which has the characteristic of aversion, only exists as long as suffering exists, because it is the cause of suffering, that is, the result. Moreover, if that suffering disappears, then it will again rely on its own nature, that is, the nature of having attachment. The second point is: if it is thought that detachment is impossible, then, for all objects that are lovely and unlovely, without liking or disliking, a person who has equality and equanimity, is called detachment, because he has abandoned the grasping of objects as to be taken and to be rejected. If asked, to what extent of equanimity is called detachment? One person respectfully anoints one side of the body with sandalwood, another person angrily cuts the body with an axe, for these, without attachment and anger, remaining equally, that dharma, is called detachment, because you are the basis of abandoning the grasping of what should be taken and what should be rejected. Fourth, refuting the view that contradicts the statement that suffering should be cultivated: if it is thought that, then contemplating the faculties etc. as suffering, and aversion to suffering is not detachment, then, this contradicts the statement in the sutras that suffering should be cultivated, the Blessed One dharma, did not say that suffering should be cultivated considering the suffering of suffering, but said that suffering should be cultivated considering the suffering of conditioning. Moreover, our suffering of conditioning is also at the time of arising

The main factor of the spoken (suffering) cause is only the aggregates born of contaminated existence, not suffering itself. Here, if it is said that those momentary things that arise from causes are suffering because they are subject to causes, this is a view that does not distinguish between schools. Because in the Sautrāntika school, even uncontaminated conditioned phenomena are also subject to causes. In general, meditating on the suffering of conditioning, Dharma, you are not liberated by this alone, because you are only the basis for the view of realizing the selflessness that is combined with other phenomena, and liberation is achieved through the view of realizing the emptiness of the self that is combined with other phenomena. The remaining meditations, such as meditating on impermanence, suffering, etc., are all for the purpose of generating the view of realizing emptiness, therefore, the Blessed One also said that from realizing impermanence, one realizes suffering, and from realizing suffering, one realizes selflessness. As it is said in the sutra: Monks, for example, is form permanent or impermanent? Venerable, it is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent, is it happiness or suffering? Venerable, it is suffering. Is it reasonable to regard whatever is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change as 'This is me, this is mine, this is my self'? Venerable, that is not reasonable. Third, if one does not abandon attachment, one will wander in samsara, which has two aspects: showing that having the three is a samsaric being, and if one does not have the three, there is the fault of being too extreme. The first aspect is: the one who clings to the 'mine' as suffering, the one who has self-grasping, Dharma, becoming a samsaric being, it is impossible to obtain liberation. Because he is the kind of person who has not been liberated from afflictions and karma, because he has not abandoned attachment to the self, has attachment to the 'mine', and relies on all actions of accumulating karma in order to obtain the 'mine'. The second aspect is: if it is thought that when liberation is attained, because there is no attachment to the 'mine', the statement of not abandoning attachment is not established, then, when liberation is attained, Dharma, there can be no enjoyer of the 'mine', because the 'mine' itself is not desired, because it has been abandoned. If it is admitted, then at the time of attaining liberation, the owner of what you admit is also
