Previously, it was also established by direct perception, but even so, there is no attachment to it and no separation from it. The second case is: if suffering is seen, there will be attachment and separation, because seeing the faults of some objects, one will see the attachment and separation from them. If you ask this, those with self-grasping, if they see the faults of what is mine, at the moment of seeing the faults, although the mind of attachment to it will turn back, what is mine will never become attachment-separation, because there is attachment to other objects. This is pervasive, generally speaking, if there is a difference between what should be taken and what should be abandoned for some objects, then the attachment arising from one that should be taken, when the types of causes arise, the previous ones that should be abandoned, etc., will become the seeds of attachment to all objects. For example, some lustful people see the faults of one woman, and although the manifest attachment turns back, because there is attachment to other women, taking this as the cause, attachment will arise to the previous woman as well. Fifth, there are two parts: stating the overextension and refuting the disclaimer. First: the person, for the samsaric dharma with faults, where will it become attachment-separation? It will not become attachment-separation, because I am without faults, and the attachment of its object is also without faults, and the establishers, such as "what is mine," are also without faults, because those are not the objects of attachment and separation. This is pervasive, because sentient beings, that is, the samsaric dharma, are only those three. The previous reason is admitted, because if I am without faults, then the other two should also logically be without faults. Second: the reason that the object's attachment is without faults is not established, because the attachment to me is the root of suffering, so it is also with faults. Although asked in this way, the word "also" is a summary of the aspect of the object of what is mine, saying that it is without faults. Then I, the subject, should be with faults, because it is the root of suffering, which is the same for you as well. If you admit it, then the seeker of liberation, just because of having faults, will he be attached and separated from what is mine? He will not be separated, because for me having faults, there is no attachment-separation for the faults of that me. Sixth, if it is the clinging that arises from seeing the qualities on what is mine, then seeing the faults on what is mine will destroy it.

Attachment to possessions such as clothing is the subject. It is not the case that attachment arises solely from seeing the qualities of possessions, because you are seen even in infants and livestock who do not know the difference between good and bad; because you exist even in one's own defective senses; because even if there are qualities, you do not exist in the possessions of other people; and because even if one sees qualities in possessions such as hair that has fallen from the body, you do not exist. If it is said that the cause of attachment to possessions is the thought of possession, and that this thought arises from seeing qualities, so one abandons it by meditating on suffering, then the cause of the arising of the thought of possession in possessions is also the subject. It is not the case that it arises solely from seeing the qualities of possessions, because you exist even in infants, etc., for the same reason. Therefore, a person is the subject. Because one sees faults rather than qualities in possessions, one does not abandon the thought of possession towards possessions, because the thought of possession does not arise from seeing qualities. Seventh, furthermore, how does the accomplishment of meditating on possessions as suffering harm attachment to possessions? It does not harm it, because its cause, attachment to the self, is without harm. This is pervasive, because the qualities that do not exist in possessions are seen as attachment to those possessions through attachment to the imputed self. Second, one cannot abandon by knowing that clothing and the self are different. The Samkhyas say: Attachment does not arise from seeing qualities, but if one holds nature, the object of attachment, and the person as one, then attachment arises towards that object. If one knows that they are different, one will become free from attachment. Then, all ordinary people are the subject. One should be free from attachment to clothing, etc., because you know through this that the self is different from clothing, etc., because even though one does not want the self to become another, one still seeks to obtain other excellent clothing, etc., and because even though one sees the self as permanent, one still has the thought of knowing that clothing, etc., are subject to arising and ceasing. Therefore, attachment is the subject. It is not caused by seeing the object and the person as one, because even if one knows that the object and the person are different, you still exist in arising, therefore.
