And Vipassanā two. The first has two aspects: body posture and mind posture. The first, body posture, is: Legs in vajra posture. Hands in meditative mudra, four fingers below the navel. Spine straight. Arms extended like a hawk's wings. Neck slightly curved. Tongue touching the palate or natural. Eyes half-open, looking at the space four fingers in front of the tip of the nose. When arranged in this way, it should not be tight or uncomfortable. It should be comfortable and relaxed, so that the downward-moving air gradually comes under control, the water air enters the central channel, the fire-equalizing and earth air enter the central channel, the pervasive and fire air enter the central channel, and the life-sustaining and air of air enter the central channel. It is necessary. Moreover, arranging the body posture in this way can make the channels and airs workable, and countless virtues will arise. Just arranging the body posture alone can bring about self-igniting experiences and realizations, so arrange the body posture in this way. First, exhale a little stale air. Then, in a natural state, without effort, roughly clarify the preliminaries and leave it at your ease. Among them, the mind posture is divided into two types: common and uncommon. First, the common one: Do not cut off or think about the past. Do not welcome the future by thinking, "I will do this, I will do that." For the present, without calculation or judgment, in the natural state of the last thought that arises spontaneously, without accepting or rejecting, hoping or fearing, or making any modifications, leave it as it is in its natural, relaxed state. Ten sessions. Second, the uncommon one: If you cannot settle the mind, place a piece of wood or a small pebble in front of you and focus on it. This is one. Or display or visualize the body of the Tathagata, adorned with marks and examples. If drowsiness, dullness, or confusion occur, focus on the crown of the head or the white hair between the eyebrows. If agitation and distraction occur, focus on the navel chakra or the wheel at the soles of the feet and the edge of the seat. If there is no drowsiness or agitation, focus on the entire body or the svastika (Tibetan: དཔལ་བེའུ་) at the heart. Recite and count the excellent marks one by one from top to bottom and from bottom to top with the mind, making them clear. This is two. Focus on a candle about four fingers high. This is three. Focus on a hole, a part of the empty sky, about the size of the palm of the hand or whatever size. This is four. Focus on the seed syllables of the Buddha's body, speech, and mind: white Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, literal meaning: Om), red Ah (Tibetan: ཨཱ, Devanagari: आ, Romanized Sanskrit: ā, literal meaning: Ah), blue Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal meaning: Hum) three

Five, write (words) on (paper or cloth) and focus on it. Six, draw white, red, blue, and other colored dots in front, or focus on the object in front, etc. In short, focus on any suitable shape. Although there are many similar methods, these are sufficient. Grasp and focus on any object that is easy to focus on, without having to completely and meticulously focus on all objects. Do not artificially fabricate anything, do not focus on anything, and let the mind naturally abide. Relax, do not try to control, and let it be natural. Completely cut off all signs of discursive thoughts such as wanting to practice, not wanting to practice, whether the mind is abiding, and worrying about not abiding. (18) If the object moves, becomes numb, or there is blinking, stop focusing on it, look at the space directly in front of the eyebrow center, and let the mind relax naturally. Do not put any pressure on this meditation, just maintain non-distraction, and maintain awareness and clarity without being contaminated by dullness. Alternate between meditation and rest, with short sessions and many repetitions, repeatedly abide in a clear, bright, and alert state, and repeatedly interrupt (distraction), do not feel bored, and it is very important to practice this diligently. Eleven sessions in total. Then, grasp the mind; gradually grasp the sounds heard by the ears, the smells smelled by the nose, the tastes tasted by the tongue, the touches felt by the body, etc. For sounds, smells, etc., just focus on the clarity of the sound and the intensity of the smell, grasp them with the hook of mindfulness, and let them exist naturally, without making any judgments of good or bad, big or small, focus on any one object. In a clear and bright state, interrupt (focus) and rest, do not let (distractions) disturb. In between each meditation session, maintain continuous mindfulness, look at the tip of the nose with your eyes, maintain walking, sitting, and lying down with your body, and do not speak intensely or excessively. Gradually stop conceptual thoughts in the mind, and gradually get used to equanimity. Twelve sessions in total. Furthermore, if dullness or agitation arises when focusing inward on the mind, in order to eliminate these, you can focus on the deity in your heart, any guru you like, or focus on the essence of the guru—a ball of light. If dullness arises, visualize an eight-petaled white lotus in the heart, with a pea-sized white dot in the center of the lotus, visualize it extending upward from the heart to the top of the head, suspended in space. Wear thick clothes.
