Is it clear emptiness when abiding, or is it clear emptiness after the disappearance of thoughts, or is the sudden arising of thoughts itself clear emptiness? If you think it is like the first two, then you should pray to the lama more intensely and strive to look again, so that you will surely see it. After doing these observations, for those who practice Tögal (breakthrough), first arises Lhaktong (vipassanā), then during Zhiney (śamatha), when both are absent, both appear. Simultaneous arising is due to the power of past practice, Zhiney and Lhaktong arise simultaneously with just a hint. Gradual arising is gradual, so here it is done from the perspective of the latter (38). It should be explained according to the way it appears, and the view should also have clarity and no grasping, like a child looking at a house, abide in that state, and then strive to observe with great diligence, abandoning laziness. You must abandon unnecessary attachment, generate renunciation, devotion, faith, and unwavering mindfulness, and practice in a stable, uncorrected state, without being bound by any hope or fear, without falling into superficial profundity, and striving only for the sake of the next life. If you strive to observe these minds, then you will surely quickly generate the wisdom of Lhaktong, it is impossible not to arise with just this much. In this way, the two situations of abiding and moving are determined, this is the fourth point. In short, by observing the face and cultivating the mind's instructions in this way, most of the time there is no need for introduction, and it will naturally arise from within. Some people generate it but do not really understand it. Some people understand it, but it is just empty hearing, or they want to quickly generate (39) good realization, and even if it has not arisen, they can speak and listen to the Dharma without confusion. The lama should also distinguish this. The disciple should also grasp the key points and practice. First, the initial way of introducing when looking at the essence is: as before, the way of looking at the essence of the abiding mind, etc., so the essence of the abiding is also clear, bright, naked, not just empty, in the state of abiding, the awareness without a designator, clear, bright, open, relaxed, without color, shape, etc., and there is nothing to say like this or that, in the absence of a designator, the clear and uninterrupted awareness, clear, bright, naked, open, bright, like this, the seeing of the unseen, the experiencing of the unexperienced, the knowing of the unknown, do not think it is just like this, but admit that something appears in your mind.

Like this illusion, there is also no such thing, in a thoroughly decisive way, luminous and empty, without clinging, luminously and clearly abiding, if it is understanding, then it cannot be deceived, so it is a bit impossible. If it arises from within, then that is the arising of insight while abiding, so seeing it nakedly like stones and bones colliding, apart from seeing it, if guidance is given in advance, it will remain at the level of understanding and become dull. Afterwards, it will also harm others giving guidance, so do not give guidance, without the cessation of thoughts, the nature cannot be seen. Without seeing the nature, guidance cannot be given. If one cannot truly connect, one cannot enter the path of meditation. Observe also during good experiences, and repeatedly clarify during bad times. Learning the method of practice is called guidance. Learning meditation is called the completion of guidance, so practicing without distraction in that state, the arising of realization is effortless, so in order to see the nature, generate conviction, and cut off doubts, now guidance should be given. Generally speaking, meditation has (41) two aspects: tranquility and insight. Among them, when the mind is relaxed in its own nature, all thoughts subside in their own place, and it abides luminously and clearly in its own nature, not putting the mind on the distractions of this world and this life, comfortable and relaxed, all afflictions subside in a subtle way. Abiding single-mindedly in the nature of virtue, no matter how long one stays, one has autonomy, and one does not even feel the coming and going of breath, this is a special tranquility. This experience is important, but it cannot be understood as realization, and it is not okay to be without it. Practicing without clinging to it, from that state, without falling into agitation, dullness, unspecified, or equanimity, regarding the nature of the mind, like this, it is free from all colors, shapes, speech, thought, and expression. In one's own mind, like this, there are things that can be known and experienced, but cannot be expressed in words, like the pleasure of a young person, luminous emptiness inseparable, free from all clinging and extremes of elaboration (42) not defiled by any thoughts of Dharma. Not disturbed by any thoughts of the world. The awareness that is not controlled by tranquility and the dullness of non-thought, abiding naturally in its own state, that is the root of all qualities, called ordinary awareness or mind. Not understanding it is ignorance and samsara, understanding it is knowledge, wisdom, or it is called co-emergent wisdom, the original nature, or the light of nirvana.
