Whatever bad happens, do not be attached, determine that it is meaningless, and do not have any thoughts of joy or sorrow (27). If you are attached to experience, it will become the root of wandering in the three realms or samsara, and you will not be liberated. Even outsiders have these, but they are useless. In short, attachment to any experience or realization will destroy you. Do not be attached to it, continue in a state of non-attachment and non-clinging, and liberate yourself from dullness through diligence. If you generate patience and meditate, the merits will be inconceivable. Therefore, you should learn in this way, and both teacher and student should correctly and unmistakably recognize the true way in which experience, understanding, and realization arise, and be certain of it. Most importantly, do not be attached to desires for this life, have unfeigned devotion to the guru, and cultivate bodhicitta for the six realms of beings. Remember without distraction, have wisdom that is not blind, not short-sighted, and not stubborn, and do not be influenced by worldly dharmas and the eight worldly concerns. This is very important. If you practice in this way, free from faults (28), experience and realization will arise effortlessly, so strive in this way, this is the eighth point. Second, Vipassanā: The body posture remains the same, and the way of looking is very important at this time. The eyes should not be half-closed, crooked, or shaking. Look directly and protrudingly at the center of the empty space in front of you, as if staring blankly. The mind abides in a faultless state, naturally, without contrivance, without self, without wrinkles, naturally relaxed, slightly raise your spirits, and maintain clear and bright, undistracted awareness. Carefully observe the nature of the mind when shamatha and vipassanā are good. What is its nature, color, shape, arising, ceasing, and abiding? Does it exist or not? Where is it inside and outside? Apart from abiding, is there anything else to know? Is there an unidentifiable emptiness, nothing at all? Or in the state of abiding, is there an unidentifiable awareness (29), clear and bright, that cannot be expressed in words? Is the nature of abiding dark, or is it clear, bright, and naked? Here are all the key points about reality. If you do not understand, do not listen, or just talk loudly, and do not generate true experience and realization in the continuum bound by the eight worldly concerns, but just pretend, then you are deceiving yourself.

If it is the cycle of Rabjung, then the vows will also be broken by the false vows of worldly gurus, so one must strive with practice until the bones are worn through. Do not establish external supports for conceptual thoughts, but rather from within oneself, a genuine realization born from the power of meditation is needed, therefore relax awareness and also rest. Also, one must observe, that is, the nature of the mind that abides, and at this time also, the way of settling should be clear and bright (30), like the sun free from clouds. Sometimes, one must diligently extract awareness and strive to look at the nature, as this is the initial way of giving introduction. The lama should also tame and question the student according to their capacity. For some who can be taught, entice and question them repeatedly, so that understanding, experience, realization, feeling, and Dharma terms are introduced without confusion. The student should also strive in that way, that is, to look at the nature of the mind, this is one. Again, cutting off the root, that is, tracing the root of the flow or conceptual thoughts and giving introduction, after doing the posture, way of looking, behavior, etc., as before, in a state of being relaxed and loose with the three qualities of bliss, clarity, and non-thought, a sudden conceptual thought arises from that, or elaborate on conceptual thoughts in whatever way is appropriate. Observe the nature of that arising awareness. Observe the time of arising. Observe the place of arising. What are the color, space, place of arising, place of dwelling, place of cessation (31)? Does it dwell outside or inside the body? Inside, in which part of the body, such as the center of the heart, in what form does it dwell and arise, one should examine. Is that mind existing as a real thing or as a non-real thing? Are there arising, ceasing, color, shape, etc.? If there are, what are they like? If there are not, is there a sound of "there is not"? Or, is there something that has neither the thought of "what is this" nor arising and ceasing, but there is something that can be known? When looking at thoughts, at that time, are all thoughts empty, free from elaboration, without arising and ceasing, or when looking at that thought, does it disappear without a trace? Or, when thoughts arise, do they appear without being grasped? If they appear without being grasped, then at that time, is there a thought that there is no grasping, or is there not? Let the conceptual thoughts flow or make them flow, and then observe their nature without obstruction or grasping. (32) At that time, is it happy or unhappy? Observe the nature of happiness and unhappiness separately. Generate many different conceptual thoughts and observe. Afflictions, the five poisons, etc.
