If one clings to the notion of "it is only mind" and adheres to it as truly existent, one will be reborn in the realm of infinite consciousness. Similarly, if one clings to the notion of "nothing exists" and adheres to it, one will fall into the realm of nothingness. If one clings to the notion of "neither existence nor non-existence" and holds it as supreme, one will be reborn in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Therefore, regarding these experiences of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, whether one is dominant or they are equal, one should abandon attachment and clinging to them, and eliminate them by seeing one's own face (realizing one's true nature). Furthermore, if one lacks skillful means such as great compassion and clings to mere emptiness, one will fall into the Hinayana path, which must be abandoned. For it is said: "Going to hell is not a permanent obstacle to enlightenment, but the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are permanent obstacles to attaining enlightenment." Therefore, through skillful means, cultivating love, great compassion, and the mind of enlightenment, one can eliminate these obstacles. Moreover, if one enhances skillful means with wisdom, then virtuous deeds such as generosity, if not grasped by the wisdom that does not fixate on the three spheres (agent, object, and action), will not transform into uncontaminated virtues, so they must be grasped by wisdom. Similarly, if one possesses the perfection of wisdom with skillful means, it is called enhancing wisdom with skillful means. Clinging to mere emptiness leads to the Hinayana path and does not generate great benefit for others, while clinging to mere compassion does not accomplish vast benefit for others. Therefore, one must unite emptiness and compassion, enhancing one with the power of the other. Shamatha (calm abiding) alone without vipashyana (insight) is merely a worldly path. If vipashyana arises, one enters the path of liberation. Therefore, one should generate the wisdom of vipashyana in one's mindstream, enhancing the power of shamatha with vipashyana. Furthermore, without shamatha, the power of vipashyana will not be perfected, and qualities such as clairvoyance and miraculous powers will not arise. The better the shamatha, the greater the power of vipashyana and the more qualities one possesses. Therefore, one must also enhance the power of vipashyana with shamatha. Although there are many ways to eliminate obstacles and enhance the power of the four yogas, they are not listed here for fear of excessive writing, but they are explained elsewhere and also appear in old instruction manuals. Similarly, shamatha and vipashyana are enhanced by the power of meditation on single-pointedness. On freedom from elaboration, realize emptiness.
