It is the water-land bridge for eating. This Pratimoksha is the path that defeats the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditating, such as the sixteen moments, and like that king, it is the supreme Pratimoksha that leads into the continuum. This Pratimoksha abides like the foundation of the ladder to enter the city of liberation. Praising it like the Teacher, saying: After I have entered Nirvana, this is your Teacher. Thus, the self-born Buddha himself praised it manifestly with reverence and diligence before the assembly of monks. Therefore, it is also praised here. If asked, is there a contradiction between the sutra which says that Nirvana is attained by relying on the undefiled path, and the statement that it is attained by relying on Pratimoksha? There is no fault, because the undefiled path is the actual reliance, while Pratimoksha is said to attain Nirvana by relying on the continuum, so there is no contradiction (8b). Explaining the accumulation path with its fruit, first, from the perspective of being difficult to find. First, from the perspective of other's endowments, it is difficult to find: The sound of the Buddha's wisdom is also extremely rare in the world. And, secondly, from the perspective of one's own endowments, it is difficult to find: It is extremely difficult to obtain a human body. And, thirdly, it is difficult to find good Dharma: Renunciation is also extremely rare. And, fourthly, it is difficult to find the five, such as the vows of morality: Likewise, even among those who have renounced, it is extremely rare to be fully endowed with morality. That is to say, the five, such as the vows of morality, are the discipline of morality, guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper or lower part of the night but diligently practicing yoga, and acting with mindfulness. Fifthly, it is difficult to find the five, such as relying on a virtuous friend: Even if one's morality is completely pure, it is extremely difficult to find a good friend. That is to say, the five, such as relying on a virtuous friend, listening to and contemplating the sacred Dharma, increasing generosity, being without obstacles, and the adornment of a renunciate, are difficult to possess. The characteristics of a virtuous friend are: possessing morality, being learned, having realization, being compassionate, not being discouraged, possessing patience, being fearless, and possessing the activity of speech. The renunciate (9a

Possessing the four qualities of acting. To teach the Dharma within the Sangha, one needs to be skilled in speaking with eight branches, namely: speaking the language of the city, being pleasant and delightful, being clear and distinct, being easy to understand, being worthy of listening to, being without contradictions, not relying on others, and not refuting. Regarding the increase of generosity, why should one give? In order to generate the six streams of consciousness, in order to generate the four concentrations as the basis of mind, in order to obtain the two paths of pure yoga, and in order to generate the path that reaches the ultimate meaning in the continuum. Abandoning the side of obstacles means abandoning evil friends, as well as all the six root afflictions and twenty secondary afflictions that become obstacles to liberation. The seventeen ornaments of a Bhikshu are: As it is said, having faith and being unwavering, having few illnesses, being diligent, having wisdom, having few desires, being content, being easy to support, being easy to satisfy, being gentle, being upright, knowing warmth, possessing discipline, being proficient in the Dharma, having the marks of a scholar, being patient, being steadfast, and being wealthy. What is certain is: teaching from the Hearer's Ground, for those who are skilled in practicing pure conduct, one should possess loving deeds of body, speech, and mind, share and enjoy gains that are in accordance with the Dharma without being stingy, act in accordance with discipline, and enter the path that is in accordance with the view. That is, being delighted in the true Dharma, loving it, regarding it as the Lama, and achieving these six qualities of being without disputes, if one possesses these, then it is certain. Thus, by showing the difficulty of obtaining individual liberation in five ways, one must diligently practice. For those monks who want to obtain skillfulness, who want to obtain the fruits of the path of application and the path of purification from these accumulations, one should strive to listen to the Sutra of Individual Liberation, which expresses the meaning and the words. Now, in order to show that the practice of individual liberation itself is very important, practicing for one's own benefit is: Monks, when the senses such as the eye encounter objects such as forms, they generate attachment, aversion, and ignorance, because they have not separated from the antidote, so they are tamed. The so-called all-powerful, even when one cannot bring forth the antidote manifestly, one should temporarily equalize.
