Perfect in wisdom, knowing all; perfect in compassion, the treasury or storehouse of the Three Jewels. The excellence of the fruit is complete; at the feet of the Thus-Gone One, Brahma is the lord of the foremost, and even he touches it with the jewel on his crown (7b). The excellence of abandonment is that it transcends the immeasurable ocean of the three sufferings. The excellence of wisdom is that it is the master of the six classes of beings. I prostrate with my head to that refuge. In order to attain omniscience, the four divisions of the Vinaya, which are the basis of learning, are the vessel from which the Three Jewels arise. Therefore, it should be distinguished in the midst of the assembly that is far removed from sin and non-virtue. Having made such distinctions, first is the praise of individual liberation. There are five praises from the perspective of the benefits of what is seen. The Vinaya spoken by the Buddha is like Lake Manasarovar at the foot of the snowy mountains, unfathomable, the basis of all morality, called the "essence," which is the seed and the root. The essence is the meaning of immutability, which is this individual liberation. This individual liberation is the King of Dharma, the Buddha himself. Wherever it is cherished and offered, there all the Dharmas, including the twelve branches of morality, are like ministers, the best of guides. This individual liberation is the merchandise by which the assembly of monks obtains the jewel of Nirvana, the three trainings preceded by morality. Moreover, the great storehouse of the place where the latter two trainings are based is the former training. For those who are immoral and controlled by afflictions, the medicine that eliminates the harm like snake venom is this individual liberation. This individual liberation is like taming a young elephant intoxicated with passion, whose mind is completely deluded, while the young two-legged one is a man, like controlling it with a hook and a nose rope. The unseen benefit is that the boat of salvation that liberates from the cycle of existence, which is deeper than a poisonous ocean, is this individual liberation. This is

Going towards the good path, hoping to go to the path of bliss, is a bridge over water that is not devoured by ghosts and spirits. This Pratimoksha is the path that defeats the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditating, such as the sixteen moments, and can introduce this supreme Pratimoksha into one's own continuum like a king. This Pratimoksha abides as the foundation of the ladder to enter the city of liberation. Praising it like a teacher, saying: After I have entered Nirvana, this is your teacher. Thus, the self-born Buddha himself praised it diligently and respectfully in front of the assembly of monks. Therefore, it is also praised here. If asked, is there a contradiction between the sutra saying that Nirvana is attained by relying on the uncontaminated path based on one's own continuum, and saying that it is attained by relying on Pratimoksha? Answer: There is no fault. Because the uncontaminated path is the actual reliance, and Pratimoksha is said to attain Nirvana by relying on one's own continuum, so there is no contradiction (8b). Explaining the path of accumulation with its results, first, from the difficulty of obtaining it, first, from the difficulty of obtaining it in terms of other perfections: Even the name of the Buddha's wisdom is extremely rare in the world. Secondly, the difficulty of obtaining it in terms of one's own perfections: It is extremely difficult to obtain a human body. Thirdly, the difficulty of obtaining good Dharma: Renunciation is also extremely difficult. Fourthly, the difficulty of obtaining the five kinds of precepts, etc.: Likewise, even those who have renounced, it is extremely rare to have perfect discipline. That is to say, the five kinds of precepts, etc., are the precepts of discipline, guarding the doors of the senses, knowing the measure of food, not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, diligently practicing yoga, and acting with mindfulness. Fifthly, the difficulty of obtaining the five kinds of things, such as relying on a virtuous friend: Even if the discipline is completely pure, it is extremely difficult to find a good friend. That is to say, it is difficult to have the five things: relying on a virtuous friend, listening to and contemplating the sacred Dharma, increasing generosity, being without obstacles, and the adornment of a Shramana. The characteristics of a virtuous friend are: having discipline, being learned, having realization, being compassionate and mindful, not being weary, and having patience.
