Now, without fear. Possessing the actions of speech, possessing the four qualities of diligence (9a). When teaching the Dharma in the assembly, possessing the ability to speak with eight branches, namely: speaking the language of the city, being pleasant and agreeable, being clear and distinct, being easy to understand, being worthy of listening to, being without contradiction, not relying on others, and not refuting. Regarding the giving of generosity, why give? In order to generate the continuum of mind, namely the six manifest consciousnesses; in order to generate the requisites of mind, namely the four concentrations; in order to obtain the two paths of the pure yoga path; in order to generate the path that reaches the ultimate meaning on the continuum. Abandoning the side of obstacles means abandoning evil friends, as well as all the six root afflictions and twenty secondary afflictions that become obstacles to liberation. The seventeen ornaments of a monk are: As it is said, having faith, being without deceit, having few illnesses, having diligence, wisdom, few desires, being content, easy to nourish, easy to satisfy, being tamed, upright, knowing shame, having mindfulness, the true Dharma, being skillful, having patience, being peaceful, and being wealthy. Certainty is: explaining from the Hearer's ground, for those who are skilled in practicing like Brahma, possessing the actions of loving-kindness in body, speech, and mind, commonly enjoying without stinginess the gains that are in accordance with the Dharma, abiding in accordance with discipline and view. That is, if one possesses these six qualities of truly rejoicing, suffering, regarding as a guru (9b), and not arguing, then that is certainty. Thus, having shown the difficulty of obtaining individual liberation in five ways, one must diligently practice. For those wise ones who want to treat themselves well, and for those who strive for discipline who want to obtain the fruits of the path of application and the two paths of purification from these accumulations, one should strive to listen to this Sutra of Individual Liberation, which is the expressed and the expressing. Now, in order to show that the practice of individual liberation itself is of utmost importance, practicing for oneself is: Monks, when the senses such as the eye encounter objects such as forms, they generate attachment, aversion, and ignorance, and are tamed by not being separated from the antidote. The so-called all-powerful is the antidote.

Even when it is not possible to lead to actual realization, maintain equanimity for a while, and settle the mind on the unpredicted. The teaching of accomplishing through the power of others is: One must be liberated from the suffering of samsara, and with an unchangeable determination to attain Buddhahood, make special vows regarding place and time, shave hair and beard, and receive ordination from others, which is the necessity of generating a sense of shame. The practice done through the power of Dharma is: Those who definitely desire liberation, etc. Through the power of practice: Always protect individual liberation. That's it. It is difficult to obtain individual liberation: Even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, hearing individual liberation, and grasping and being grasped are difficult to obtain, and practice is also extremely difficult to obtain. That's it. The emergence of the Three Jewels brings about all happiness. The emergence of Buddhas is happiness, and teaching the Dharma is also happiness. The discipline of the Sangha in harmony, and the four of ritual, view, and livelihood being in harmony are of one taste. Those who are in harmony in this way, the three trainings of asceticism that do not side with afflictions are happiness because they will abandon all suffering. Obtaining happiness from relying on a virtuous spiritual friend is: Seeing the noble ones is happiness, and associating with the virtuous is happiness. That's it. Abandoning bad friends is happiness. If one does not see children, it will always be happiness. Relying on a virtuous spiritual friend also depends on the greatness of qualities: For the arising of pure samadhi in the mindstream, seeing a virtuous teacher who possesses discipline is happiness. For the arising of special insight in the mindstream, seeing or relying on a virtuous teacher who has heard much is happiness. For seeing a virtuous teacher who has characteristics, seeing the truth of the nature of reality, and seeing arhats who are liberated from existence is happiness. The happiness to be obtained from nirvana is: The happiness of entering into bathing and so on is like the happiness of taking water and so on from a river. Relying on the entrance of the three trainings of the path, accomplishing the nirvana of liberation is happiness. That is, beings who are accustomed to virtuous Dharma through accumulation and application are happy, obtaining wisdom from the path of seeing and meditation is happy, and the exhaustion of "I" and pride from the path of no more learning is happiness.
