Therefore, by analyzing mundane phenomena such as acceptance and rejection through the valid cognition that engages with the power of entities in conventional terms, whatever is reasonable is adopted as one's own system, and whatever is unreasonable is refuted. Because the conventional truth, such as the way of reasoning, engages with the power of the entities themselves, it establishes the meaning of profound emptiness. Having said just that much, in order to uphold that position, the Svatantrika Madhyamaka school arose in this Jambudvipa. Furthermore, masters like Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti hold that, like this, in the two truths, the ultimate truth is not established by the power of entities in both truths, which is in accordance with the former (Svatantrika) view. However, it is not only that the conventional truth does not engage with the ultimate through the power of entities, but it is also unreasonable for it to engage with the power of entities even in conventional terms. If it were established in that way, then the phenomena encompassed by the two truths would not be empty in conventional terms, and there would be an excess of phenomena that are not unborn. If that were the case, it would contradict the statement that all phenomena of the two truths are said to be unborn and empty in all places, times, and circumstances. Therefore, the Svatantrika Madhyamaka system is not the complete body of the Madhyamaka system as advocated by Master Nagarjuna. They extensively refute the unreasonable aspects of the Svatantrika system. Because the conventional truth is not established by the power of entities even in conventional terms (390a), the conventional terms cannot establish meaningful conclusions such as acceptance, rejection, refutation, and establishment through the valid cognition that engages with the power of entities. If one relies on the conventional truth, how can one establish acceptance and rejection, reasonableness and unreasonableness, and so on? There are two cases for this: The first case is that, on the level of ordinary conventional truth, when engaging in acceptance and rejection in accordance with the world, without detailed examination, one merely follows the sayings of others, saying, "Abandon killing and practice virtue." The second case is that, on the level of mere convention, when engaging in acceptance and rejection in accordance with the world, without detailed examination, one merely follows the sayings of others, acknowledging that all phenomena appear like illusions without inherent existence, and then refutes the object to be refuted, which is like an illusion, with reasoning that is like an illusion, thereby abandoning non-virtue that is without inherent truth and practicing virtue.

Thus it is said. If such a conventional truth of refutation and establishment is examined, then it is not established by the power of things even in name. Such a refutation makes the other party, who does not want it, fall into fault, and it helps that side. In this world, there appeared those who call themselves Prasangika Madhyamikas. Therefore, this school not only does not establish conventional truth by the reasoning established by the Madhyamika's own system, but also does not establish mere convention. Those who say that knowable things are contrary to dependent origination admit that conventional truth is established by the power of things. However, those who say that knowable things are in accordance with dependent origination reject that assertion with the reasoning accepted by others, and only say convention (390b). At that time, the Madhyamika, with the subsequent statement in accordance with the dependent origination of knowable things, for the sake of the necessity of preventing the previous wrong conception, says to those opponents that convention is like an illusion without self-nature. However, the Madhyamika's own system examines with the established reasoning, and even in name, mere convention is not established. Some people doubt like this: If so, then the reasoning accepted by others cannot refute the previous unreasonable statement of the other system, because that reasoning is not the reasoning of one's own system. But this is not pervasive, so it does not lead to that fault. Because in the nature of dependent origination of dependence and establishment, if something unreasonable is established, then it is possible to know that a reasoning eliminates that unreasonableness, in the knowable. If so, how does the reasoning of the nature of the law accepted by others, which says that knowable things are in accordance with dependent origination, prevent the wrong conception of clinging to reality, which is contrary to the dependent origination of knowable things? At that time, the reasoning of the nature of the law accepted by others, which says that knowable things are in accordance with dependent origination, cuts off the extremes of elaboration such as clinging to reality on the self-aspect of the nature of the conventional truth. After cutting off like this, understanding the reality of the ultimate truth is also said by those who say that knowable things are in accordance with dependent origination, without examination, in the common acceptance of others. If this school examines, then it is not established there either. Because by preventing birth in the conventional, it is not established as unborn in the ultimate either. Because if there is no birth in the conventional, then there is no birth in the ultimate.
