The activity of completing the composition. The activity of completing the composition. Thirdly, there are three: showing the uncommon treatise that possesses scripture, reasoning, and instructions; composing for the sake of showing the profound meaning that others have abandoned; and dedicating the merit of the composition to the enlightenment for the benefit of others. First: This system is by the monk Chandrakirti, extracted from the Madhyamaka treatises, the scripture is as it is, and the instructions are spoken as they are. Other than this, this Dharma is as if it does not exist. The way it appears here is also not found elsewhere, the wise should ascertain this. This system that clearly elucidates the meaning of the two truths without error (386b) is by the monk Chandrakirti, who has taken full ordination through the four acts, having extracted the essential points from the Madhyamaka treatises such as the Root Wisdom composed by the great teacher Nagarjuna, and speaking in accordance with reason. The profound and extensive scriptures such as the Ten Bhumi Sutra, the Prajnaparamita Sutra, the Lankavatara Sutra, and the Samadhiraja Sutra are as they are, and especially the instructions of the noble teacher Nagarjuna are spoken as they are. Just as there is no other treatise other than this Madhyamaka treatise that teaches the Dharma of emptiness without error, these reasons that appear in this treatise, which I, Chandrakirti, have explained with refutations, are also not found in other treatises of the followers of Nagarjuna. Therefore, the wise should ascertain this, and in the future, please ascertain it with complete mindfulness and wisdom. Thus, the first verse shows that the realists do not realize emptiness, while the Madhyamikas realize it, and thus explains the Svatantrika Madhyamikas. The later verses show that this teacher's system is superior to the Svatantrikas. Furthermore, the Svatantrika Madhyamikas say that the ultimate truth spoken by the Vaibhashikas and Sautrantikas is established as conventional truth by the Madhyamikas. This statement does not understand the true meaning of the Madhyamaka treatises. Because the Dharma that transcends the world cannot be equated with worldly Dharma. If you think about the ultimate truth accepted by the Lord Nagarjuna and say that, then it is more serious than saying that non-conceptual non-erroneous is conceptual erroneous.

What fault is there? (387a) If one asserts that the indivisible subtle particles and indivisible moments that the Vaibhashika school claims to be ultimately existent are conventionally true, then these are merely distorted conventionalities that are completely fabricated. Even worldly people do not regard these as conventionalities that serve as the basis for acceptance and rejection. So, what greater fault could there be than for you, the Madhyamika, to fully accept this? Because in that case, there would be no possibility of existence. This refutes both the claim that some say the Prasangika Madhyamikas agree with the Vaibhashikas in their establishment of conventionalities, and the claim that some say there are no Madhyamikas who agree with the Vaibhashikas in their way of establishing conventionalities. The Yogachara Madhyamikas such as Shantarakshita, etc., were not present at the time when the master composed this treatise, so he did not directly refute them. However, implicitly, their establishments are also indirectly refuted by this treatise, and it should be understood that they were refuted earlier in the section refuting Vijnanavada. Therefore, compared to the Prasangikas, that system is not a completely perfect Madhyamika system. Thus, there are four different ways in which Madhyamikas establish nominal conventionalities: the three schools of tenets, those who conform, and those who follow the fame school. The great Jonangpa master said: Both Prasangika and Svatantrika are not Madhyamika, and if they are Madhyamika, they must be Dharmata (chos nyid, *dharmatā*, 法性,法性), and both Prasangika and Svatantrika are conditioned phenomena, so they fall into the extreme of existence. These statements not only slander the Madhyamika school, which is the best of the four Buddhist schools, but also refute those who pride themselves on having established special views. In that case, the later turning of the wheel of Dharma (387b), the profound tantras, all of the Maitreya's teachings, the brothers Asanga and Vasubandhu, and all the treatises composed by Dignaga and Dharmakirti, etc., would also become Dharmata (chos nyid, *dharmatā*, 法性,法性), because they are Madhyamika. If both Prasangika and Svatantrika fall into the extreme of existence, then it contradicts saying that they are nihilists and deniers. If one thinks that by saying that the later turning of the wheel of Dharma, etc., also have both conditioned and unconditioned aspects, one can avoid that fault, that is not possible, because there is absolutely no unconditioned aspect in the phenomena produced by causes and conditions such as the later turning of the wheel of Dharma, etc. Therefore, saying that is beyond reason and is speaking of something that is impossible for knowledge. Second,
