Also. The sixteen are transformations. The purusha is neither nature nor transformation. Thus it is said. Nature is prakṛti, meaning 'to do thoroughly,' because it produces sounds and other objects to be enjoyed by the purusha when it desires to enjoy them. How does it produce them? From nature arises the great one or intellect, from which arises ego, and from that, the group of sixteen. From the sixteen, the five elements arise from the five subtle elements such as sound. The root nature is only a cause, not a transformation like the great one. The great one, ego, the five subtle elements, and the seven are both cause and effect. In relation to their own transformations, they are nature, but in relation to the root nature, they are transformations. The ten senses, mind, five elements, and sixteen are only transformations, because they arise from a cause but do not produce an effect. The purusha is neither nature nor transformation, because it does not arise from a cause and does not produce an effect. How does the purusha, who desires because all the groups of transformations arise from this knowledge, become the enjoyer? The senses such as the ear, blessed by the mind, grasp objects such as sound, and the intellect clings to them. The purusha then thinks about the meaning of what is clung to. Therefore, the purusha or self enjoys those objects closely and is called the enjoyer, because that purusha is of the nature of having the thought of closely enjoying objects. At that time, it is called samsara. Thus, having enjoyed objects through the desire of the self, when the purusha becomes free from attachment to objects, gradually cultivating samadhi and obtaining the divine eye, when it sees nature, nature becomes ashamed like another's woman and does not cause transformations to arise for the sake of the self. The order of arising of transformations is reversed from the proper order, and it becomes obscure and diminished in the principal. The purusha becomes solitary and is liberated. At that time, the transformations are diminished, but the self is not diminished, so it is an eternal entity. Just as nature and transformation are the agents, the self is

It is the nature of non-agency, because it is indifferent to action. That itself is without merit, because it lacks the nature of dust, darkness, and power. That itself is without action, because it is pervasive, that is the distinction of the person. For that, nature is the agent, for various transformations, which of the two is the agent or non-agent? For that, dust, darkness, and power are the three qualities. (283a) Dust is the nature of the mind's realm of movement and entry. Darkness is the nature of heaviness and ignorance of the body and so on. Power is the nature of lightness and very clear and bright of the body and so on. Happiness and suffering and equanimity are various names. The state of equality of the three qualities is the main thing, because here the qualities become the main ones, and the various transformations become very peaceful. Those are the nature of the unchanging stage. This nature is a vase. This is a blanket, etc., the determination of the place is great. From that, having my share, it should be regarded as having a share, etc., is pride. That changes into three aspects, namely, the variation with the part of suffering, the power with the part of happiness, and the darkness with the part of equanimity. From the first pride arise the five tanmatras such as form. From the five tanmatras arise the five great elements such as earth. From the second pride arise the five organs and the five objects and the mind with the nature of both, eleven in total. The third pride is what makes the two prides enter. Thus, the Samkhya heretics examine, relying on the difference of that self slightly slightly, the tenets of the heretics become different. The Vaisheshika school is wisdom and happiness and suffering and desire and hatred and effort and dharma and non-dharma (283b) and the power of combination, in order, taking the object, experiencing the desired object, the opposite of this. Having expectations for the desired object. Turning away from the undesired object. Higher birth and definite goodness, and the opposite of this, the actions of the qualities of the self that arise from knowledge and become the cause of knowledge are nine kinds. Those nine qualities gather on my body, that is existence.

Now, in order to accomplish virtuous and non-virtuous actions, it is called samsara. When one realizes the power of beings and other ego-grasps as suffering, and cuts off wisdom and other virtues from the root, then this self will be in a desolate place without any virtues, therefore it is called liberation. This self is also said to be constant, the doer, the eater, possessing virtues, of the nature of no-mind, and inactive because of being pervasive. Some say that it has the function of contraction and expansion. The consciousness theorists say that, like the space in different vessels such as vases, the self is one, but it appears diverse because of different bodies. Among them, the Samkhya, the Vijnanavada, the Secretists, the Naked Ascetics, the Mimamsakas, the Vaisheshikas, etc., consider the self to be consciousness, while the Vaisheshikas, the sentient beings, etc., consider it to be matter, and the Lokayatas consider the body and life to be the same essence. In addition, the Samkhya, the Vaisheshikas, the sentient beings, etc. (284a) consider the self to be permanent, while the Naked Ascetics, the Mimamsakas, the Vaisheshikas, etc., consider the nature to be permanent but the state to be impermanent, and the Lokayatas consider it to be permanent from birth to death, and then annihilated. Second, refute the self. Refute the nature of the self, refute the difference of the self, it is not permissible to be separate from the aggregates, and show that it is not the basis of ego-grasping, there are four points in total. The first point is: Like the child of a barren woman, because it is separated from birth, such a self does not exist, nor should it be the basis of ego-grasping, nor should it be allowed to exist in the conventional. The self that is now said to be permanent and the eater does not exist, because it is separated from birth. Such a self should not be the basis of the innate ego-grasping of the world, because it does not conform to its way of holding. Not only does it not exist in the ultimate, but it should not be allowed to be the object of innate ego-grasping in the conventional, because it has never been seen as such. Like the child of a barren woman. Please also refer to this example above. The second point is: Why is it that the treatises distinguish its differences from the treatises, and all that the heretics say is harmed by the reason of self-name unarisen, therefore, all its differences do not exist.
