That, other than the ultimate truth, there is no other choice. At that time, the reasoning that refutes the object to be refuted by the sign, is urgently needed in this world. If there is none, the ultimate meaning of this world, because it is not seen, there is no self and non-self in it. The act of imputation that mistakes true and untrue, etc., is not possible, so where can one seek the distinguishing characteristic without a basis for distinction? In the knowable, when the nominal is not analyzed, self and mere truth are on the object, because the arising of that grasping is not seen without something to be grasped. For example, the one who clings to sound as permanent, with that way of clinging, on the object of clinging, sound is permanent on the knowable, and the knowing mind also conforms to the knowable, is it not seen that it makes a reversed distinction? Sound is permanent in neither of the two truths. Likewise, this conventional dharma of things, self and truth, in both truths (311b), are not established, but even so, in the face of mistaken consciousness, the nature of the knowable conventional and, the conventional truth, those with attachment to them, etc., the knowable and the knower that are merely relative establishments, are the same when not analyzed, but when analyzed, neither the knowable nor the knower exist. In this snowy land, constant and inconstant, and, self and non-self, the three aggregates of grasping, are not, and constant and inconstant, self and non-self, not grasping, do wise ones have the three aggregates of grasping? On one basis, constant and inconstant, self and non-self, that mind with the way of grasping of the mind that grasps both, does it exist or not exist in the world, I ask. If it does not exist, can you prevent the arising of the unstated view, the fourteen? If it exists, it contradicts your acceptance that there are no three aggregates of grasping with constant, inconstant, self, and non-self. If there is a mind with the way of grasping of the three aggregates that are neither of those two, then, the three aggregates of mind that contradict the way of grasping in the interval of the mind that does not have the three aggregates that grasp those two, it is not reasonable to determine that it exists, if the nature of non-existence is reversed, the nature itself changes, the three aggregates in between, even in between saying utter annihilation, the way of grasping, it would be reasonable to establish one of the three aggregates. That also, you do not accept. When the object to be refuted by the sign, self and truth, are not analyzed, if there is nothing at all in the knowable, this object of confusion of self and truth, causes all beings to be mis-

Look at this obscured ignorance! What can I do if these deluded beings even in name admit that it doesn't exist (312n)? If in delusion, the place of delusion, the mind is not there and is deluded, then all these beings will take a rabbit's horn as the object of delusion. If the self and truth to be refuted arise from delusion and exist before an unexamined face, then the self and truth are not deluded and do not exist in either of the two truths. How does the Madhyamaka school establish its own view? Establishing it in this way will completely lose everything. What to say, what not to say, lacking the ability to speak, this is truly pitiful! Thus he spoke. Secondly, just as you say, the characteristics that the sun's disc possesses, such as eclipses, can also be seen in the image. The sun and the image, whether they meet or do not meet, rely on various factors to produce only a name. Even if it is not real, it exists in order to prove that one's own appearance is beautiful. Just as it is, here too, the beginning of wisdom should be cultivated in order to see the ability, and such a reason, even if it contradicts reason, can understand what is to be proven. Just as you say, the characteristics of the sun's disc that are eclipsed can also be seen in the image of the sun that appears in clear water. At that time, the water on which the sun and the image depend meet, and if the image appears, then there is no sun in the sky. If they do not meet and appear unrelated, then the two will also be separated by other substances. If examined, there is no reason for the production of the image. If not examined, relying on the causes of clear water and the sun, the image as an object is merely the production of a name. The image of the sun does not have the nature of the sun, but it can determine the extent to which the sun is obscured by the eclipse. Therefore, even if the nature of the refuter's refuted object, whether meeting or not meeting, is not established, the refuter can refute the object to be refuted, just like the example of the production of names in the world. Again, the image of the face that appears in the mirror, even if it is not the real face itself (312b), also relies on it to prove that one's own appearance is beautiful. For this purpose, the image is the
