One believes in this. Therefore, the two systems of the earlier and later Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgika schools in Tibet appear as different traditions, like light and darkness. Therefore, one should listen to and contemplate the scriptures of Nāgārjuna and his spiritual sons, and analyze them with an unbiased mind, free from sectarian bias. Now is the time to follow those views that are free from error. Do not cling to the lineage of your own preference, nor merely adhere to old habits because of the seniority of entering the Dharma gate first. Do not judge truth and falsehood based on the number of people who have joined a sect, or who in Ü-Tsang and Ngari (modern Tibet Autonomous Region of China) are powerful, brave, wealthy, and then easily conclude that one side is correct, otherwise it is easy to fall into the quagmire of sectarian bias. Therefore, this treatise also does not show that the eighteen elements exist even nominally in a dream, but rather, whether awake or asleep, the eighteen elements are shown to be equally false in reality, without any difference between truth and falsehood. Just as the three (seer, seen, and seeing) in a dream do not exist when one wakes up from a nap, when one awakens from the great sleep of ignorance, and the Dharmadhatu manifests, the three, which are not defiled by immediate delusion, are non-existent, just like the three in a dream. Therefore, consciousness without an object is also unreasonable. Secondly, it is divided into: the actual refutation and the refutation of the answer to its fault. The first part is divided into: the object and consciousness being equally true and false, and if this is not the case, then it should be seen by others. The first case is: whatever hairs, etc., are seen by any consciousness with impaired senses, by the power of the impairment, depending on that confused consciousness, both are true; but in clear seeing, both are false. If it is said that even without an external object, there is consciousness, because someone with impaired vision apprehends non-existent hairs, etc., this is unreasonable, because it is exactly like a dream. Whatever hairs, etc., are seen by any consciousness with impaired senses, by the power produced by the impairment, depending on that confused consciousness, the image of the hairs will also appear. Therefore, both the object and the subject are true, but in clear seeing without impairment, both are false, because consciousness with a subject but without an object is not established. The second case is: if there is consciousness without an object of knowledge, then the hairs'
