Because the universal assumption that something "exists" cannot be established even in conventional terms. Moreover, the sutra states: "The nature of the completely imputed is without self-nature, the dependent arising is without self-nature, and the perfectly established ultimate is without self-nature." The meaning of this statement is very reasonable according to the Madhyamikas' assertion of the three self-natures. Because the completely imputed, like a rabbit's horn, cannot be established by valid cognition even in conventional terms. The dependent arising, like an illusion, does not arise by its own nature but depends on causes and conditions. The perfectly established is also the nature of emptiness in conventional terms, so it is also without self-nature, and because it is not deceptive, it is also established in the ultimate sense. Being established in the ultimate sense because it is not deceptive is only established in the unexamined conventional realm. If examined, the ultimate truth is devoid of both deception and non-deception (251b). If it is devoid of these two, then how can it be established? One must think in this way. According to the Vijnanavada view, the dependent arising will not become without self-nature of arising, because they assert that it arises in the ultimate sense. The third part includes: explaining the reasoning of refutation, the conclusion, and demonstrating other methods of refutation. The first part: arising from both is not the nature of reason, because the faults already mentioned will fall upon it. The Naked Ascetics say: external and internal things arise from both self and other, for example, when a pot arises from clay, lumps of clay, wheels, threads, water, and potters, the clay and the pot are not other, and the potter and the wheel are other than the pot. Similarly, internal things also arise from both self and other, because things exist in the nine meanings of words such as life and non-life. Maitreya exists in the nature of life in other lifetimes, so he takes this life in this lifetime. Because life has feet, it is considered to be the cause of the walking of other gods, etc., through the act of walking itself. Maitreya also arises from others such as parents, dharma, non-dharma, and defilements. Therefore, if self-arising and other-arising are prevented, it will not harm us, because we have not asserted that they arise only from self and other respectively. They say this. Arising from both self and other is not the nature of reason.

It is not, because the faults already mentioned will fall on it, because it does not have any merit if it arises from that. Etc. If another arises dependent on another, then thick darkness will arise from the flame as well. Etc., the faults have been stated. Second, this is not admitted as either worldly or ultimate truth, because this arising from both is not admitted as arising from worldly truth, nor is it admitted as arising from ultimate truth, because in both truths, arising from self and other is prohibited. (Third, another way of refuting is also shown: (1 1 Because arising from each one is not established. Arising from both is also not established, because arising from each one of self and other is not established. For example, if one sesame seed can produce oil, many can also produce oil. If one grain of sand has no power, then many also cannot, just like that. Fourth, refuting the essentialists and refuting the mind arising from the five aggregates, two. First, refuting in both truths. Refuting both with the reason of being inconceivable. First: If one thinks that it arises only from no cause, then all things will always arise from all things, and in order to produce fruit, the world will not collect seeds etc. through hundreds and thousands of ways. The essentialists say: If things arise from a cause, then there will be the fault of self, other, or arising from both, even so, there is no fault for us, because we do not admit that things arise from a cause. Internal and external things arise from nature, for example, the roughness and softness of the stems and petals of lotuses, etc., although there is no agent of some cause, they will arise there, and peacocks and emeralds, etc., also, although there is no cause that grasps and arranges colors and shapes, etc., they also arise from nature, they say. If one thinks that all internal and external things arise only from no cause, then all fruits (252b) will always arise from all causes and non-causes.
