There is no way to pacify speech, because if one analyzes Vijnanavada and others with reason, let alone clinging to the dependently originated nature of imputation and otherness, as well as self and Ishvara, etc., in the ultimate sense, even in conventional terms, those things that are not commonly recognized in the world are asserted to exist according to one's own system, which is inconsistent with the world, thus losing the conventional truth; because what is said is inconsistent with the views of the noble ones, it will lose the suchness ultimate truth. If these two truths are lost, there is no possibility of achieving liberation. Because in the world, if the establishment of the two truths, samsara and nirvana, bondage and liberation, etc., are not used in a mutually dependent way, then the world's samsara and nirvana, bondage and liberation, etc., will be reversed. Just as the Samkhya school labors to establish the path of the two truths, but ultimately becomes meaningless and unable to obtain the fruit of liberation. The third is: conventional truth becomes the means, and ultimate truth arises from the means. If someone does not understand the difference between these two, then he has entered the wrong path due to inverted conceptualization. The reason why liberation cannot be attained if the two truths are lost is: conventional truth, that is, the interdependent dharmas of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases (233a), which are taught by the fully enlightened Buddha, becomes the means to realize the ultimate. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "From the dharma without letters, who is the listener? Who is the speaker? To the immutable, one imputes, yet one listens and speaks." The teaching of ultimate truth arises from the means, that is, relying on conventional truth to teach the ultimate, and from understanding it, one can attain the ultimate, that is, non-abiding nirvana. As it says in the scriptures: "Without relying on convention, one cannot teach the ultimate meaning; without realizing the ultimate meaning, one cannot attain nirvana." Here, arising from the means, the fruit, what is to be obtained, what is to be realized, the object to be observed by the wisdom of meditative equipoise, and non-abiding nirvana, etc., are all different names. Therefore, if someone, like the Vijnanavada school, does not understand this distinction between the two truths, that is, the view of the Madhyamaka school, then he has entered the wrong path due to his own inverted conceptualization, thus going against the intention of the Bhagavan. As it says in the scriptures: "Those who do not skillfully know the difference between these two truths."

Those are the Buddha's teachings, which cannot fully understand the profound truth. So it is said. In order to explain in detail the way of establishing the two truths, twelve verses and one line of the latter half of a verse from the Noble One's "Samādhi that Definitely Shows Thatness" are quoted and explained in detail. The meaning of that treatise is: It refutes the way of establishing the two truths of the Realists and the Svātantrikas, and truthfully proclaims the distinctions of the two truths that are merely in accordance with the world, as stated by the Prāsaṅgikas. All phenomena are devoid of self-nature in both truths and are free from elaboration. When making statements in conventional terms, one does not conform to sectarian proponents, but rather follows how the world speaks, such as the six realms of beings and high and low, etc., are all established as conventional truth. Secondly, it is divided into: abandoning what contradicts the conventional, and abandoning what contradicts the scriptural authority. First, it is divided into three: the way of acknowledging due to the need for the conventional, the way of not acknowledging if it is not visible to the world, and the way that the world cannot deny the conventional. The first is: As you assert other-powered entities as real, I also do not accept conventional truth. For the sake of results, I say that these are non-existent yet existent. Before the world, I declare. The Mind-Only proponent says: If you Madhyamikas, without regard for our school, use reasoning to refute other-powered existence, we Mind-Only proponents will not tolerate you Madhyamikas either. If you reverse the reasoning of you Madhyamikas that refutes self and other, and refute the conventional truth that is accepted by you, what will you do? It is like a thief who steals wealth accumulated from beginningless time, and the loser makes friends with the thief, gives food mixed with poison, and then snatches it back and does not give it, the thief will be happy. We Madhyamikas most desire to examine and refute the conventional truth that is spoken of in the world with Madhyamika reasoning. Just as you establish other-powered existence after examining it with reasoning, conventional truth (234a) is not established after examining it with reasoning, but is established in the face of the unexamined world. To show this, just as you think that other-powered entities are the objects of the wisdom of the noble ones, conventional truth is also not autonomously acknowledged by me, the Madhyamika, in my own system. Then,
