This school does not negate in terms of conventional truth, but rather negates the establishment of things like the all-ground consciousness (kun gzhi) as being able to withstand scrutiny. Saying it in this way is like digging one's own grave, because the term "self-awareness" (rang rig) in this treatise, which is famous in the Mind Only (Cittamatra) teachings, is not commonly known in the world. Therefore, worldly people do not even use it as a term. However, worldly people do express in conventional terms the basis upon which the term "self-awareness" is applied, which is simply the initial experience of knowing, and the subsequent recollection of it. If a Madhyamaka Prasangika, without analysis, engages in the worldly convention of remembering experiences, then it is established in the self-school's conventional truth as a mere reiteration. Because it does not need to be established. If it is established in conventional truth, then it falls into analysis, and this school does not accept phenomena established through analysis in either of the two truths. Furthermore, this school does not establish any self-school. Moreover, for the sake of worldly convention, the all-ground consciousness, external atoms, and self-awareness are not established, so establishing them in this way for the sake of worldly convention (229b) is meaningless in the world. In particular, the Prasangikas assert that the all-ground consciousness and self-awareness, with oneself as one's own object, and the atoms that are the basis of composition, which are composed of parts that are inseparable from consciousness, cannot withstand scrutiny in either of the two truths, so not only should they not be negated, but also as the basis of worldly convention, these are not publicly established in the world. Therefore, without analysis, they do not exist even in worldly convention, so it is necessary to thoroughly refute this extremely unreasonable assertion. If self-awareness and the all-ground consciousness are not negated in conventional truth but are established, yet their establishment is negated in ultimate truth, then it would be inappropriate to specifically target the all-ground consciousness and self-awareness for such refutation, because it would be necessary to do so for all phenomena that are the basis of conventional truth, such as pillars and pots. If one thinks that doing so for the all-ground consciousness and self-awareness does not necessarily mean doing so for phenomena such as pillars and pots, that is not reasonable. Because the Prasangikas believe that worldly people do not regard the all-ground consciousness and self-awareness as the basis of conventional truth, so even without analysis, they do not establish them as conventional truth. However, karma and its effects, and mere recollection of experiences, can serve as the basis of conventional truth, so without analyzing these conventional truths, these conventional truths will completely in the world.
