Similarly, it should be understandable even to those who are not yogis, who wish to observe corpses and the like. If the mental realm of meditating on impure things like corpses is also true, it is precisely for that reason. For example, when you observe a pot, which is the object of your sensory consciousness, just as among those who fix their gaze on that object, one will give rise to an eye consciousness possessing its form, so too will others arise, just as it is. If you accept this, then, precisely because of accepting this, it will not occur to you to think that that samadhi is false. The fourth point is: Similar to one with impaired vision, the perception of pus by pretas in a flowing river is also like that. Just as for someone with impaired vision, in a deluded state, it appears as if both object and consciousness exist, but in a non-deluded state, it does not appear as if both exist, similarly, for the Ganges and other flowing rivers, the mind of pretas perceiving them as pus also appears, in a deluded state contaminated by karma, as if both object and consciousness perceiving pus exist, but in a non-deluded state, that is, an uncontaminated state, it does not appear as if both exist. This represents stones, trees, eyes, and the like, which are contaminated by the power of mantras (218b), giving rise to the appearance of illusory horses and elephants, and all phenomena arising from conditions. Whatever is assembled or contaminated by any condition, the appearance of that condition, both object and consciousness, will arise in dependence on that condition. However, when separated from the contamination assembled by that condition, the proliferation of both object and consciousness, the appearance dependent on that condition, will be pacified, because there is no object of focus. Therefore, in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is said: "Even if there were a dharma more excellent than the Tathagata, it would be like an illusion or a dream." In short, saying that the mind of pus arises in a flowing river also means that when two individuals, a human and a preta, are able to see each other and are together in a place without obstruction or hindrance, the preta will have the perception of a river of pus, and the human will have the perception of a river of water, but the human's river of water will not appear as the preta's perception of pus, nor will the preta's river of pus appear as the human's perception of water. Because there, the object that is the basis of appearance is inherently true, and many inherently true conditions cause the object to transform into many inherently true objects in the presence of different beings, that is, each different object.

Because I am not established as being able to function. For example, if the river that appears to humans is not established as the nature and essence of a river, then there is no difference, so a preta cannot regard it as a characteristic of a newly born pus river, whether it existed before or not. Therefore, even if the basis of what should be included as a thing does not exist anywhere, due to different individuals, limitless contradictory things (219a) can be identified anywhere. Even in the position of a subtle particle, due to the power of karma, different classes of beings can manifest countless worlds with millions of universes, as explained in those sutras. Moreover, from our own perspective, its manner is inconceivable. Even in conventional truth, the power of karma, jewels, and mantras are described as inconceivable states. If it were not so, like Manjushri's advice to the great Tsongkhapa, rivers of blood flowing in rivers, rivers of pus flowing, etc., new things, even if they obscure each other for beings, but do not obscure beings themselves, therefore it must be said that things that can function are self-existent. If this is said, according to the views of the Madhyamikas who previously came to China and Tibet, it is unreasonable. Because in proclaiming the Middle Way, both the superimposition of thinking that all dharmas are real and the defamation of thinking that all dharmas are non-existent must be eliminated. Therefore, the conventional truth seen by the six classes of beings, which appears to be an infallible self-existence, is actually not established as appearing to be validly established in the face of their own minds not being defiled by immediate illusions. Because it is false and deceptive. And, in the face of their own minds not being defiled by immediate illusions, the existence established by valid cognition does not become established because of existence. Moreover, the mind not defiled by immediate illusions cannot be established as valid cognition, because it is a non-valid (219b) consciousness defiled by fundamental illusions. In the face of illusions defiled by conditions, all the characteristics of conventional objects and consciousness are merely imputed, but such things being established as being able to function is because the noble ones equally abide in the state of the two truths of conventional reality.
