When distinguishing between the two, the ultimate truth is merely saying that the object seen by the noble ones with correct wisdom is the object that is truly established. However, it is not something that can be found by the mind as being established in its own nature. Conventional truth refers to the fact that for those whose minds are completely covered by the cataracts of ignorance, the false object that appears in their minds is established as conventional truth. However, the object is not established in accordance with the way it is perceived by the mind. Therefore, all things that are found will be held as having the two natures of ultimate truth and conventional truth. Among these two, the object seen by the noble ones as being true is suchness, which is the ultimate truth. The object that appears as false is the conventional truth, as the Buddha taught. Here, I will briefly discuss the remaining meanings arising from the two truths. In this land of snow mountains (referring to Tibet), which of the two systems of Madhyamaka, Prasangika and Svatantrika, became more prosperous in later times? The great Tsongkhapa said that it was through the power of the new and excellent teachings of the venerable Manjushri himself acting as a spiritual friend that the Prasangika system became more prosperous. However, regarding the Prasangika system, they assert that the two truths are one in essence but different in aspect. (Does Tsongkhapa not consider the conventional dharmas defiled by ignorance to be unerroneous appearances? Because they say that the conventional dharmas defiled by ignorance are not held as dharmas established by nominal valid cognition. Rather, they say that the conventional dharmas defiled by ignorance, which are the objects to be refuted by the thesis, are the defiled dharmas of ignorance with erroneous appearances. So, how do you say it? It depends on how you say it. If the conventional dharmas are not defiled by the cause of ignorance, which is the object-possessor holding the object to be refuted by the thesis and having dualistic appearances, then such ignorance will not defile such dharmas. If it is defiled, then in the realm of such ignorance, the knowable object to be refuted by the thesis becomes the established basis. Since this is the case, for the continuous stream of erroneous conventional dharmas, the erroneous appearance of the true appearance of the grasper and the grasped, which is to be refuted by the thesis, also becomes the established basis for the object of error. Therefore, the self to be refuted by your thesis is not fundamentally established in the knower.)

That statement also became established in meaning. As for us, when not examined, the ignorance of the object and subject of refutation by reason, and the illusion of knowable things, speak of contaminating the fruit, the conventional dharma, with delusion. But when examined, if the object and subject of ignorance that contaminates are not established as knowable, how can the object and subject of its contaminated dharma be tolerated as knowable when examined? This is the unsurpassed roar of the lion of the Middle Way, free from extremes. Therefore, in the definitive sutras and treatises of the intermediate turning of the wheel, the appearance of the present conventional phenomena functioning in this way in the past, without realizing that it is a deceptive falsehood, but appearing as the grasping and the grasped of reality itself, is said to be the conventional of the dharma contaminated by ignorance (139a). Therefore, that dharma itself is a dharma with error, but you establish it as a dharma without error, and by establishing that there is a dharma with error other than that, it is merely done for the sake of not wanting to abandon the stain of error. If there is no special need, then there is a great danger of it becoming a dharma that deceives the meaning of emptiness. Self-commentary: (Having made such a commitment, establishing the nature of the two truths in one's own system established by valid cognition; and explaining that all conventional dharmas contaminated by ignorance appear as free from error; and that conventional nominalizations that are pleasant without investigation are not dharmas to be refuted by reason and the path; and that the person and dharma grasped as true by the three co-emergent aggregates of mind of all sentient beings, if determined to be non-existent, will become a great nihilistic view that destroys cause and effect; and that all the different parts of error contaminated by ignorance, whether afflicted or not, are considered to be non-erroneous, established by valid cognition, and infallible; and that even when the perfect Buddha sees the appearance of karma, he also grasps the feelings of hell, etc., as appearing there as the three spheres; even though he grasps in this way, he does not truly grasp the feelings, etc., with the three spheres, because the Thus-gone One has abandoned all clinging appearances that are the object of refutation by reason; and saying that erroneous minds and valid cognition have a common basis; and since all things arise from a single annihilated thing, making many efforts to establish the thing as the cause; in short, from form to omniscience)
