All are included in the Buddha's teachings because the higher training in morality (185b) has not been lost. Those who do not possess pure views are not proponents of the Sugata's tenets, because different tenets are distinguished by different views. Thus, the eighteen schools possess the pure higher training in morality, and the four philosophical schools possess the higher training in wisdom. Therefore, those schools that assert the existence of a person are included in the nominal Buddhist teachings because they have not lost the higher training in morality, but because they have lost the higher training in wisdom, they are also truly non-Buddhists. To address the doubt that they are non-Buddhists, they offer answers and, for the first reason, they distinguish and answer with non-establishment and non-pervasion, and for the latter reason, they do not distinguish but only answer with non-establishment. Even so, in reality, clinging to the substantial existence of a person obstructs the realization of selflessness, so even if it turns into an outsider from the Buddhist path of liberation, it does not contradict the four seals of Dharma because it does not accept, as outsiders do, that there is an independent entity of the nature of a person's self outside the aggregates. Therefore, it is also established in its own school and Dharma. It is not pervasive that merely entering one's own school and Dharma makes it the true teaching of the Teacher, because the part of the teaching that views things as real in the various views of the Mind-Only school is the same as the principle that the teaching of the Teacher (186a) cannot be true, some say. Some Shravakas say that at the very moment of performing an action, something called "non-loss" arises, which is like a promissory note. Even though the loan can be used because there is a note, just as the wealth of the owner of the property is recovered with interest without loss, even though the action like a loan has ceased, the relationship between action and result is reasonable because there is a continuation of non-loss. Also, some Vaibhashikas say that something called "attainment" arises, and from the cause of attaining virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified dharmas, until the cause of abandoning is abandoned, whether those dharmas are manifest or not, a substance arises that establishes that one possesses those dharmas. With its continuation...

It is said that the distinctions of results are established. Those are unreasonable. It seems that non-wasting and obtaining are considered to be substantially existent conditioned phenomena that are not associated. This is unreasonable because it cannot be determined by the three valid cognitions other than form, mind, and mental factors. If it were reasonable, it would entail conditioned phenomena being permanent, and so on. Are non-wasting and obtaining the causes that generate conditioned phenomena, or are they the causes that do not separate? The former is unreasonable because if conditioned phenomena have not arisen, then they have not arisen either, so they will never arise. Moreover, when conditioned phenomena arise, no power of theirs is seen. The latter is also unreasonable because in the continuum of one person, virtuous and non-virtuous, contaminated and uncontaminated, what should be abandoned and antidotes, etc., cannot coexist at the same time (186b), because contradictory things would exist together. Sautrāntikas and others say that the distinctions of karmic results are established through the habits and seeds that are instilled in the mind-continuum by virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified phenomena. To this, those who accept the ālaya-vijñāna say: The former is unreasonable, and it is good to establish it on seeds and habits. But even so, if there is no ālaya-vijñāna, the seeds and habits themselves are not feasible. This is because the entering consciousnesses are not stable, so it is meaningless to instill habits in them. If it were meaningful, then the fruit of karma that has been destroyed and has passed for a long time would be produced, so it would become either arising from nothing or the past becoming substantially existent. The entering consciousnesses are said to be virtuous, non-virtuous, contaminated, uncontaminated, etc., and arise very clearly, so they cannot be the basis for habits that are incompatible with them. Moreover, the openers of such consciousnesses that arise as virtuous and uncontaminated are minds and mental factors other than themselves. It is unreasonable for oneself to instill habits in anything. If the former instills habits in the latter, then either one does not exist in reality, so it cannot be the instiller and the basis for instilling. If they are instilled simultaneously, then the consciousness that is the opener, such as virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified, cannot arise and cease simultaneously with other consciousnesses. In fainting, deep sleep, and mindless absorption,
