Because it leads to great attachment, the Complete Buddha and Nagarjuna and others hold this view. The sutra says: Whatever is the Perfection of Wisdom, in it, the notion that form is permanent, and that it is impermanent, are not found. If form itself is not found, how can permanence or impermanence be established? (182b) Similarly, it is said up to omniscience. The treatise says: To say 'it exists' is to grasp at permanence. To say 'it does not exist' is to view it as annihilation. Therefore, the wise should not abide in existence and non-existence. If something exists by its own nature, then it is not non-existent, so it is permanent. To say that something existed before but does not exist now, then it will lead to viewing it as annihilation. And it says: If one asserts that things exist, then it will lead to viewing them as permanent and annihilated, because that thing will become permanent and impermanent. And so on. Therefore, if one's own system asserts that things are permanent and impermanent, what will happen? It will become an assertion of either permanence or annihilation in meaning. Moreover, when one's own system asserts either existence or non-existence, then both permanence and annihilation are actually asserted. Because asserting that a phenomenon does not exist, that phenomenon becomes annihilated. If it does not exist, then depending on that non-existence, a phenomenon of existence will come into being. In this way, that existence depends on that annihilation of non-existence, and is grasped as permanent. And asserting that a phenomenon exists, that phenomenon becomes permanent, and if it exists, then depending on it, a phenomenon of non-existence will come into being. In this way, that non-existence depends on that permanent existence, and is considered to be annihilated, because those who do not understand the truth of the world are very attached to this. Furthermore, all phenomena from form to omniscience are established by valid cognition, and saying that they are not truly established is to assert both extremes. Because (183a) phenomena are asserted to be established by valid cognition without emptying their own essence, it is the extreme of permanence. And when they are examined, it is asserted that they become unreal, so it becomes an assertion of the extreme of annihilation. If something exists by its own nature, then it is not non-existent, so it is permanent. To say that something existed before but does not exist now, then it will lead to annihilation. Therefore, the clear statements of the Bhagavan and all the treatise writers are interpreted perversely, so that one's own system...

Accept the Dharma of no self-nature, and do not dwell on the two great extremes of permanence and annihilation. Here, in the doha of the venerable omniscient Nyenpa Rechen, it says: In the nature of the two truths, among the two, true and false, the true, the Dharma that exists as its own nature, existence as its own nature, is what the world and the expounders of treatises approve of. In the Mother of the Bhagavan and other scriptures, the two truths are separately true and false, for the two truths of the true, nature and characteristics, and self-nature cannot be clearly pointed out, it is repeatedly emphasized. Thus, for what cannot be clearly pointed out, who would establish self-nature? There also, it cannot be established, by grasping at the nameless, for the fool with characteristics of elaboration, I, Repa, consider it wonderful. This supreme nectar of speech should be remembered. Therefore, as it is said in the scriptures: The emanation emanated by the emanation, emanates with the perfection of miraculous powers, the emanation emanated by the emanation, again like another emanated. Similarly, whatever action is done by the doer, what is done is like the appearance of an emanation. For example, the other emanation emanated by the emanation, acts in that way. Afflictions, actions, and bodies, etc., the doer and the result, are like a city of gandharvas, like a mirage, a dream. With the example of emanation, etc., starting from the nature of mere appearance in the two truths, it is explained that these dharmas are without self-nature, and like the self-nature of dharmas without self-nature, they arise dependently in various ways such as arising and ceasing in the world. Third, the real and, incidentally, the basis of karmic results, are explained in an indirect way. First, although there is no self-nature, the relationship of karmic results is reasonable, and the meaning is proved by means of examples, and avoiding excessive speculation on this without end. The first is: Because self-nature does not cease, therefore, even without the alaya consciousness, it can function. In some cases, even if the karma has ceased for a long time, it is known that a true result can arise. Therefore, in the two truths, because there is no self-nature, not only are we liberated from the views of permanence and annihilation, but also in the relative truth, even if the karma has ceased for a long time, for the sake of the relationship of karmic results, the self-nature of things such as the alaya consciousness
