In short, although merely following the words of others, the two truths and other phenomena are established as existing only conventionally, when the two truths are able to withstand scrutiny, in either case of the two truths, as far as our own system is concerned, things like atoms and indivisible moments of consciousness, even if divided into a millionth part, cannot be found to have any basis for existence or establishment. Since no basis is found in this way, the phenomenon called emptiness cannot be established as the basis for either things or non-things, and therefore the dharmadhatu is free from the characteristics of elaboration. (169b) As the great Jetsun Milarepa said: "In terms of conventional truth, the Buddha said that everything exists; in terms of ultimate truth, there is nothing from obstacles to the Buddha himself." As it is said, conventional existence is false existence, because it does not exist there and cannot be established as existence in our own system, so for things that are named as non-existent in the ultimate sense, it is only a negation of their non-existence, but if it is examined with reason, it will be established as existence again, so it is impossible not to be emptiness, and it is impossible to become self-true. You did not mention this in your letter, you think that everything that the Buddha said is empty, which is not established in meaning, because all conventional dharmas in their respective positions exist with their own nature not empty. And the dharma of emptiness that is said, the true emptiness of ultimate truth, will not abandon existence with the nature of the dharma of true emptiness, and since there is no established basis, the emptiness that is verbally said to be devoid of the nature of self-truth, in fact establishes things with functions that are devoid of nature. In the end, for this knowable, all dharmas starting from the two truths, according to their own wishes, establish things by false means. And with the nature of things, the profound emptiness of emptiness cannot be established, and thus it is denied, so starting from the two truths, together with the cognitive objects of children, the self-nature that appears in non-conceptual and conceptual thoughts is established as real and functional things, which is the view of the great scholar Nagarjuna. (170a) And strongly declares that for this reason, you should use many strange discourses that are well explained by Manjushri and have never been known in the Madhyamaka school of Jambudvipa to establish it.

However, even so, it is not thought to be established. Because this reasoning is not accepted by any of the internal and external schools of thought, and it also contradicts worldly conventions. For example, the blue, yellow, people, horses, cattle, elephants, sentient beings, mountains, forests, rivers, etc. that appear in a mirror, although they appear to sensory consciousness, they are not referred to as those things. The existence of unreal falsehoods, such as existence and establishment, is an "existence" that has meaning; and the non-existence of true certainty, such as non-existence and non-establishment, is a "non-existence" that has no meaning. Because of the authority of internal and external scriptures, one does not dare to easily proclaim and establish a tenet based on this. If one were to proclaim in that way, everyone from scholars to cowherdesses would recognize it as a fallacy, and would not think of it as the rule of the scriptures. Because those who propound tenets all believe that the validity of their own tenets is true, so whatever they say, such as "existence" or "non-existence," has the meaning of "non-existence." And everything that others say is false and untrue, so whatever they say, such as "existence," has no meaning of "existence," and thus they engage in refutation and establishment. Apart from that, those who propound tenets have no other (170b) way to establish their own tenets and refute the tenets of others. In that case, the "existence" of false meaning would truly exist, and the "non-existence" of true meaning would not exist with true meaning. Saying this would amount to admitting falsehood as truth and truth as falsehood. To speak of the nature of truth and falsehood in this way and to accept this reasoning is not found in the tenets of any internal or external school of thought, so such an assertion is not apparent. Here it is said: With an impartial mind, for a long time, through careful examination, the meaning to be understood, the intention of the unerring teacher is explained, here without bias. Those who do not possess the wisdom of a noble person, and those who are poor in reasoning, if they abandon the unbearable jealousy towards this splendor of the scriptures, which is as complete as the ocean, then the goodness of this life and the next, they will gain great benefit! Thus it is said. Secondly, because all times and places are not measured by the world, at that time there is no harm to the world, only that.
