Also, it should not be said. It is neither two nor non-two, but it is said for the sake of designation. As it is said. For example, to someone with cataracts, various things like hairs appear. In order to reverse the attachment to their reality, even though various things like hairs appear to someone without cataracts, they do not exist as they appear. If it is said like that, then for someone without cataracts, it is not necessary for hairs and so on to appear nominally. If so, are these reasonings that prevent the four extremes of arising, etc., one's own reasoning or another's reasoning? If it is the former, how can the unarisen, etc., established by it not become one's own side? If it is the latter, how can another be prevented by another's reasoning? It is not one's own, because if one does not accept even a little of the side to be established, one does not need the reasoning of establishment; if there is not even a little of the other's side to be refuted, one does not need the reasoning of refutation. In the Refutation of Debate, it says: If one observes some meaning of perception, etc., if one needs to establish or refute, because it does not exist, I have no fault. And, because there is nothing to be refuted, I do not refute anything. Therefore, saying that one refutes, that is an accusation you have made. As it is said. Therefore, it is prevented by the reasoning accepted by others. Reasoning means that some of the commonly known reasons in the world are arranged in the treatises of the proponents of tenets, and with this, refutation, establishment, acceptance, and rejection are done in common. If one accepts it, then in the tenets of the insiders and outsiders, it is impossible for self-contradiction and the harm of others' reasoning not to occur. Because the views of the proponents of inner and outer tenets are like dreams, illusions, cities of gandharvas, images, and the appearance of hairs to someone with cataracts, etc., and proving that rabbit horns, etc., are real, and then admitting that they have characteristics such as permanence and impermanence, materiality and immateriality, one and different, self and other, both, and arising without cause, etc., and actions such as birth and death, and coming and going. This is also because one wants to establish one's own side because one sees it as having qualities, and one wants to prevent the other's side because one sees it as having faults.

Since debate arises from each party's sectarian standpoint, they remain blind to the countless internal contradictions and logical harms within their own sect. However, they clearly see any internal (75a) contradictions, shared logical harms, and conflicts with worldly reputation in the opposing sect. This is the nature of all sectarian proponents, leading to endless debates with no clear victor. Just as someone with wisdom who understands the nature of illusion and other phenomena does not see any basis for differentiation in illusions, and therefore does not bother to examine their characteristics, so too, the Madhyamika practitioner recognizes all the flaws in the thinking of logicians who examine the characteristics of phenomena that lack a basis for differentiation. When they point out the internal contradictions and shared logical and reputational harms in each system, those logicians see that all their own tenets are internally contradictory and harmed by logic and reputation. To prevent them from clinging to their own positions, one might think that they will not develop respect for Madhyamika because they do not see any valid proof. However, when they see that all sectarian systems are internally contradictory and their attachment to those systems diminishes, they will develop respect for the Madhyamika practitioner who is free from all sectarian views. This is a brief digression. This explanation is based on the intention of the great master, the noble Nagarjuna, as elucidated by the masters Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti. It also draws from all the old texts that have been passed down from the glorious Dipamkara to the Lotsawa Naktsé and the three spiritual brothers, Dromtön, and especially the tradition of Patsab Lotsawa and his four sons and followers. It seems that in later times in Tibet, only a few, such as the great translator Kyabchok Palzang and Redawa Shönnu Lodrö, spoke accurately according to this tradition. Therefore, the light of their excellent explanations has also been clarified here. Secondly, from the refutation of the four extremes of origination, it explains the manner in which the Svatantrika and Prasangika schools diverged, and elaborates on the reasoning for refuting those extremes. Firstly, it examines the crucial point of divergence between the Svatantrika and Prasangika schools of Madhyamika, and how they debated each other after their split.
