If one wants to take the common concept as the topic of discussion, and does not want to take permanence and impermanence as the characteristics of sound for discussion, then for both the proponent and opponent, if the common appearance can be established, then similarly, if it can be established to grasp just the generality of the object of the eye that is not distinguished by the two truths (121a), even if it is established in this way, the Madhyamikas who speak of emptiness and those who speak of entities that are not empty will not commonly accept that such a thing is established even in conventionality. If even in conventionality, the conventional eye, etc., as conventional objects, are not established by valid cognition, then in ultimate reality, the object of the ultimate eye is also not established by valid cognition. Therefore, the example of debate among realists, and the example of debate between Madhyamikas and realists, are not the same because there is or is not acceptance of common appearance. Therefore, the way of pointing out the fault of the unestablished basis should also be applied to pointing out the fault of the unestablished reason of "because it exists." The existence of the eye, etc., in ultimate reality is not established for itself, and the existence in conventionality is not established for others. When the scholar Legs ldan byed (Good Deeds) here takes the conventional eye as the basis of debate as a conventional object measured by conventional valid cognition, the scholar Chandrakeerti says that if this is the case, it contradicts both valid cognition and commitment. If in conventionality, conventional objects can perform functions, then all phenomena contradict the commitment that objects capable of performing functions are empty of their own nature. If there is an object that is not distinguished by the two truths, and one wants to establish its generality, then such an object has been refuted by the direct perception and fame of all ordinary people and noble beings, and the Teacher Sugata (bde bar gshegs pa, Tathagata) has also extensively refuted it from the valid scriptures of the Mahayana. Therefore, this touches the great key of the dividing line between Prasangikas and Svatantrikas (121b). On this dividing line, whether the views of each scholar are clear or not is like this. Most of the translators, pandits, scholars, accomplished ones, and incarnations who claim to be Madhyamikas who have appeared in the land of snow (gangs can, Tibet) have not focused their attention even slightly on this method, but are only making meaningless arguments distinguishing between Prasangika and Svatantrika, by whose power is this?

It has become extremely terrible. Third, refuting faults, that is, combining with the promise of Lekden (Legs-ldan) himself. It is like this, because the meaning of the basis and reason as stated is not established in both truths, and it is not established in common appearance, this is promised by the logician himself. How is it promised? The Hearer School (Nyan-thos sde-pa) believes that the cause of producing the inner sense bases, such as name and form, is only existent, because the Thus-gone One (Tathāgata) said that the six sense bases are established by the condition of name and form. There is pervasion in this, that is, whatever the Thus-gone One said is so, for example, Nirvana is peaceful. In response to this proof established by others, Lekden replied, here, Hearer School, what do you mean by 'there is a reason'? Is it said to be true because the Thus-gone One said so in conventional truth? Or is it said to be true because it was said in ultimate truth? If it is in conventional truth, then for you, the proponent of entities, the meaning of the reason is not established, because you want to assert that the inner sense bases appear in ultimate truth. If it is said that it exists in ultimate truth, then it is impossible for the teacher to say so in ultimate truth, because when the Dharma is existent, non-existent, and both existent and non-existent are not established, then the cause of producing the result, the condition of the nature of both existence and non-existence is eliminated. How can it be called a proving cause? If so, it is unreasonable. It is said that the existence of ultimate truth is not the cause of establishment, this is the meaning of the words. Explaining the reason, therefore, in ultimate truth, the cause of the inner sense bases is the object to be established, and the establisher spoken there by the Thus-gone One is not established in ultimate truth. If you, the Hearer School, use ultimate truth as the reason, then it is the meaning of non-establishment, and if you use conventional truth as the reason, then it is the meaning of contradiction, Lekden, after examining this in the two truths, spoke this fault of non-establishment for himself and others. The meaning of the words is that Lekden himself said to the Hearer School, the Thus-gone One
