Since both are non-rational due to being established by common appearance, all that is to be proven of the profound reality and that which proves will be completely destroyed. Therefore, O intelligent one, you should think like this: In ultimate truth, the internal sense bases are not born from other causes, because they are 'other,' like a pot. Or, in ultimate truth, the names and forms, etc., which are the internal sense bases such as the eye that others want to express as being established, are definitely not the causes of the six sense bases, because they are 'other' than the internal sense bases, like threads, etc. Here, 'otherness,' etc., is not established in itself in ultimate truth. Furthermore, how do you, O intelligent one, think that the internal sense bases are merely born? Because beings possessing the objects of the internal sense bases, such as forms, dwell, go, see, and hear, therefore, special terms are spoken. This reason stated by other Hinayana schools, wanting to express it as being established on the level of ultimate truth, but expressing it as not being established, therefore says this: If that sign is established in conventional truth, then it is not established for the Realist himself. But in ultimate truth, if the yogi, in meditative equipoise (123b), proves that birth and going, etc., exist in the face of the wisdom that sees the true suchness of things with the eye of wisdom, then, at that time, in the nature of that mind, because it can speak special terms related to those objects, that reason is not established. Because in the nature of that mind, going is also prevented only by preventing birth. Similarly, in the same way of analysis, the same applies to the reason of the Madhyamaka that one has made oneself. In ultimate truth, there is no going where there has been no going, because it is a path, like a path that has been gone. This reason, 'the path itself,' etc., should be applied to the meaning that it is not established in itself in ultimate truth. In ultimate truth, the eye, along with its support, does not look at form, because it is the eye faculty, like that and something similar to it. And, similarly, the eye alone does not look at form.

Furthermore, because it is transformed from the elements. For example, like form. And, earth is not of the nature of hardness, because it is an element. For example, like wind. In these and other such cases, one should also apply the reasons and so forth that are not established in the ultimate sense, and are not established in oneself. Also, this reason that you, the skillful one, say, "because it exists," if according to the opponent, the Samkhya school, the outer and inner sense bases exist, just as there is self because there is knowledge, is it not born from the self? Or, like a pot and so forth, is it not born from the self? Because of doubt (124a) uncertain, so it is uncertain. If you say that even though a pot and so forth are not directly shown to be established as not being born from the self, it is not uncertain because it is the same as being established from implication. Then, that statement is not so, because the outer sense bases have not been taken as the subject and said that way. Third, showing that Chandrakirti himself has no contradictory faults is: if others say the faults of the inferences of the skillful one, then in the same way, the inferences made by you, Chandrakirti, also have the faults mentioned above, so does it become the fault of the base not being commonly established and the reason not being established, and so on? Therefore, if the fault is established for both the skillful one and Chandrakirti, then Chandrakirti should not refute the other skillful one, so will all these faults become unreasonable? The answer is: for those who say that the subject-property and pervasion are commonly established by valid cognition, this fault of the base and sign not being commonly established by valid cognition will be established. We, the Prasangikas, do not apply inferences that are established only by the valid cognition of our own system, nor do we apply inferences of our own system that are commonly established by valid cognition with other systems, not even in dreams. We state inferences only to prevent others' commitments, to cut off falsehood in others' minds, and are refuting consequences. Because the Madhyamikas themselves have such words (124b) stated, for either the speaker or the spoken, they are free from all elaboration of wanting to state. Then, how to refute others?
