Because the master Nāgārjuna also thoroughly refuted the sixteen expanded points of reasoning. So, if the consequentialists say that even though conventional phenomena are not established by conventional valid cognition in the conventional realm, they still extensively explain conventional establishments, then, in the conventional realm, do they also say that conventional actions, causes and effects, and bondage and liberation, etc., are completely nonexistent? They do not say that, because just as noble beings who seek high status and definite goodness in this life make conventional establishments in the face of not examining, so too do I speak of it there. So, is it unreasonable to establish conventional actions, causes and effects when conventional actions, causes and effects are not established? It is not contradictory, because even though they are not established, doing so and not doing so are various aspects of phenomena that are known to be infallible in the world, and in experience, in the confused appearance of terminology (91a), it seems undeniable. As it is said: The great elder Buddhapālita said, "For the sake of worldly convention, all is true, not true, true and not true." And, in this way, the Blessed One also said, "Whatever is known to exist in the world, I also say exists. Whatever is known not to exist in the world, I also say does not exist." Therefore, when worldly convention is being made, whatever is known to be true in the world, the Blessed One also said is true. Whatever is known to be untrue in the world, the Blessed One also said is untrue. Whatever is known in the world to be both true and untrue, the Blessed One also said is both true and untrue. For example, two villagers were going to the city for some business, and for the sake of entertainment, they entered a temple to look at paintings, and one of them said, "The one holding the trident in his hand is the son of Viṣṇu. The one holding the wheel in his hand is Maheśvara." The other one said, "You have it backwards. The one holding the trident is Maheśvara. The one holding the wheel is Viṣṇu."
