is a thing, because the destruction of the seed is a thing. It is established because the sprouting of the sprout and the destruction of the seed are simultaneous. If it is not established, then the side of the sprouting of the sprout and the side of the destruction of the seed are not simultaneous, because the sprouting of the sprout and the destruction of the seed are not simultaneous. Therefore, the sprout is not present at the time of the seed (192a), but it is present later, so it is with a cause. Similarly, the destruction of the sprout, the previous destruction of the sprout was not present at the time of the previous sprout, but it is present later, so it is with a cause. Thus it is said. Moreover, the Sutra of Ten Grounds says, "Because of the cause of birth, aging and death," so death is the destruction of the sentient being that has died, which is said to be produced by the cause of birth. Moreover, it is also said in the same sutra, "Death also abides closely in two actions, namely, causing the destruction of formations and also producing the cause of complete ignorance." Therefore, death has two actions: causing the cause of death, and death producing ignorance. Therefore, destruction has a cause of production, and destruction is able to produce a result. Therefore, it is said, "The existent and the non-existent are conditioned phenomena." As it is said in the scriptures, "From the exhaustion of the cause comes peace, exhaustion is the object." The things of sprouts, etc., and the non-existence of that destruction, both of these are conditioned phenomena. The exhaustion of the cause like oil is said to be the cause of the exhaustion of the result like a lamp. Thus they say. All these lines of reasoning of proof are only self-contradictory, and all the quotations are only irrelevant. First, in proving that destruction is a thing, after two proofs and rebuttals, finally, if it is said that "if there is a cause for not staying in the second moment, then there is also a cause for not staying in the second moment is the same," if this sameness is established, then if the object produced by the cause is an object, then the object that has been destroyed after being produced by the cause (192b) must also be an object, how do you prevent it? Also, if the cause of the sprout arising in the first moment gives help, so that the object-result of the sprout being destroyed in the second moment can be produced, then similarly, the sprout-object arising in the later second moment, the destruction of the sprout-object in the first moment will also give help, if this is admitted, then because of this admission, the arising of the sprout-object is the cause of the destruction of the sprout-object.

And, the destruction of the sprout itself also becomes the cause of the sprout's growth. If you think so, then birth becomes the cause of cessation, cessation becomes the cause of birth, death becomes the cause of immortality, immortality becomes the cause of death, life becomes the cause of non-life, and non-life also becomes the cause of life. If you think so, then the cause of immortality and life, the nectar of the gods and the accomplishment of the immortal long-life vidyadhara, also become the cause of death and non-life. Moreover, the birth and death of a sprout, according to your view, should not be established as cause and effect in time sequence. Because the destruction of the sprout and the growth of the sprout are both things, and they are things of the same or different kinds, and there is no thing that is interrupted by other things between them. If this is not established, then these two are not established as actual cause and effect, because these two cause and effect are interrupted by other things. If you think that it is not pervasive at all, then if the establishment of time sequence does not require things to be interrupted, then it should also be possible to establish time sequence for phenomena such as space. Furthermore, the cause of the sprout's growth, which is the actual result of destruction (page 193), does it produce the sprout's thing, or a thing other than the sprout? If it is the former, then the sprout has not been destroyed. If it is the latter, then does it produce a thing that exists or does not exist? It should not produce a thing that does not exist, because non-existence contradicts things. If it produces existence, then the sprout has already been produced at the first time, so the second time should not produce the result of destruction, because it produces existence that has not been destroyed. To this, the reason is not established, even if it produces existence, it does not produce existence that has not been destroyed, but produces the existence of destruction itself. Then, the existence of the sprout's destruction, as a dharma, you should not be destroyed, because you exist. If it is not pervasive, then the thing that the sprout exists and is destroyed, as a dharma, should not be existence, because you cannot remain in a state of existence or non-destruction, and there is no way to become existence other than destruction itself. To this, even if there is no way to become existence other than destruction, but destruction itself is existence, so the inability to remain in existence is not established, then existence should not have the state of birth and death, because destruction itself is existence, and there is no way to become existence other than destruction. If it is not pervasive, then existence
