It is to avoid falling into the great abyss of evil destinies by engaging in the reversal of acceptance and rejection after establishing a sect. Even if one does not accept the ālaya-vijñāna, etc., as the basis of karma and its results, it is not that one cannot eliminate the wrong views of others. For those who accept the ālaya-vijñāna, etc., as the basis of karma and its results, it seems that they merely think that if the basis exists, the continuity of karma will not (189a) cease, and because it does not cease, it is reasonable to produce results. Here, too, it is possible for others to understand that there is no contradiction in the fact that karma and its results are separated from the eight extremes, such as arising and ceasing, or because they do not cease, they are not wasted, and results arise. Although it may be allowed that karma does not cease because it has not arisen, if one asks how results arise from karma that has not arisen, then all the results that arise are empty of inherent existence, and they arise from dharmas that have not arisen, as has been shown above with many examples, such as reflections. Cause and effect are reasonable for that which has no inherent arising and ceasing. If karma arises inherently, then it contradicts karma and its results and all conventions. These words are the unerring view of these treatises, and they are the teachings of the great Madhyamaka masters who appeared in the land of snow in the past, without mixing in their own words, so those who are fortunate should take them as a place of trust. Here, the great Tsongkhapa and his followers say: The establishment of the basis of karma and its results by the external and internal heretics is not reasonable because it is established by valid conventions in the relative truth. Even so, the fact that the basis of karma and its results is destroyed by a real entity is a unique characteristic of the Prasangika school of the great scholar Chandrakirti. To say so is to slander the scholar Chandrakirti, because what this scholar refutes is precisely what this scholar asserts. Because if (189b) this scholar were to say that karma and its results have the nature of existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing, etc., then all things would become permanent and annihilated, and therefore he refutes it. Because the external and internal heretics feared that the connection between karma and its results would be severed, they established real entities as their basis, but none of these are established. Here, a thesis has been established and explained in detail, but again here karma
