Therefore, in the Mind Commentary, it says: In short, from the empty Dharma, arise all the empty Dharmas. The agent, actions, and experiencing of results, the Victorious One taught in conventional truth. Because external dependent arising also arises from aggregates, like the sound of a drum and a sprout, it is considered to be like a dream and an illusion. The fact that phenomena arise from causes and conditions does not contradict anything, because the cause itself is empty, and one should realize its unborn nature. Thus it is. Therefore, just as one knows that the cause and effect of reflected images have no inherent existence, what wise person would fixate on the appearance of forms and other causes and effects that are not established as being distinct, as if they were established, and thus ascertain that they have inherent existence? One should not do so, because although they appear to exist, they do not arise by their own nature. As it is said: In a very pure mirror, just as reflections appear without inherent existence, know that trees and all phenomena are the same. Thus it is said. Secondly, because there is no inherent existence in either of the two truths. Therefore, they are neither permanent nor annihilated. These dependent arising phenomena are neither permanent nor annihilated, because there is no inherent existence of their own essence in either of the two truths. Like reflections. Therefore, apart from this, I should ask this of the great Tsongkhapa and his followers: In your own system, you establish the two truths and their characteristics very well, so if you say that they have characteristics and inherent existence, in the end you are still speaking of views. Because it has entered the mind, the profound meaning of emptiness, which liberates from all extremes of permanence and annihilation, has been abandoned from afar. Because all conventional phenomena are conventionally accepted as existing through nominal valid cognition. Ultimate truth is established as unreal and selfless by valid cognition of reasoning. Therefore, it is accepted as existing ultimately. In that case, it would become an acceptance of what was previously established in the root texts and commentaries as one's own system. Because inherent existence is accepted in both of the two truths. In conventional truth, it is the inherent existence of existence, and in ultimate truth, it is the inherent existence of non-existence, because the inherent existence of non-existence is accepted. In this, inherent existence is not accepted, because inherent existence is established as truly existing on its own side, independently.

It is established here. Because establishing the nature or own entity of the existence or non-existence of the two truths does not become an admission of self-nature. So it is said. The Perfect Buddha and the glorious protector Nagarjuna and others, in examining the existence or non-existence of self-nature in the two truths, did so in the face of the worldly renown that enters knowable objects through terms. Other than examining the existence or non-existence of entity and self-nature in the entity or self-nature of the two truths, they did not examine the existence or non-existence of self-nature in a dharma like the horns of a rabbit or the child of a barren woman, which does not exist in knowable objects (181b), because there is no need to do so. In particular, the truly established object of negation of the sign that Tsongkhapa accepts is not an entity or self-nature even in the appearance of any of the two truths to worldly people, so the emptiness of such a self-entity does not establish the emptiness of the self-nature of the two truths. Just as the horns of a rabbit are not born, it does not become that sprouts are not born, and the child of a barren woman does not have life, it does not become that the man Devadatta does not have life. Moreover, according to your view, what is called self-nature should also be established only in the way that the truly established abides by the entity of the object itself. What is called non-self-nature should also be said only of the fact that the way of abiding by the entity of the object itself is not established as true. The sign is accepted. The pervasion is established by the world. If you accept, then it should become that the dharma of true establishment exists in knowable objects. Because for knowable objects, whichever of the self-nature, characteristics, and entity of the two truths is established by valid cognition in one's own system, self-nature pervades true establishment. Meaning of the words. That which exists in conventional truth, the unerring cause and effect of valid cognition of terms, is not harmed by reasoning, is the subject. Such a thing should become permanent. Such a thing, the part that performs the function, is not the place of the object of negation of the sign in both truths by Madhyamaka reasoning, and if it is not so, then the term of valid cognition establishes its existence, so the annihilation of non-existence is not seen, and if it exists or is permanent, then it is not non-existent and annihilated. The sign is accepted. The pervasion is established by the world. If you accept (182a), what will happen? Furthermore, wherever the existence of a thing is established by valid cognition, it is not deceptive as self-truth, if that is the case, then the dharma. The dharma of dependent arising, like an illusion, should be constantly cut off.
