According to that desired Madhyamaka system, the fault that the Mind-Only school and other realists attribute to others will turn back on themselves. Like this, when you Madhyamikas speak of the nature of emptiness, you acknowledge the emptiness that pervades all phenomena. To say that this is unreasonable is absurd, because a pot is a dharma, and it does not remain empty of its own essence, but remains as a remainder. Even though the pot is empty of a small amount of true establishment by way of abiding, it is not established that all phenomena are emptiness. If you say that, then wouldn't that Madhyamika who speaks according to your system become powerless to answer any sign, clarity, or pervasiveness? According to your desire, is the pot empty of its own essence or not? You cannot explain that it is not empty, because your way of explaining Madhyamaka is to accept the Madhyamaka that speaks of the absence of inherent existence. If it is empty of its own essence, then is the essence of the pot that of a substance with the characteristics of performing the function of holding water, having a shrunken base, and a bulging belly (173b)? Or is it the truly established that is established by the way of abiding? It is impossible for it to be the second, because such a thing does not exist in the knowable. If it is the first, then you will never become a speaker of the Madhyamaka system that speaks of the absence of inherent existence of objects in all phenomena. Because the essence of the pot is that of a substance with the characteristics of performing the function of holding water, having a shrunken base, and a bulging belly, and it is not empty of its own essence. When we enter this Madhyamaka system that speaks of the absence of inherent existence, I wish that the sound of saying that the Madhyamikas who speak of the absence of inherent existence think like this in all births and lifetimes would not be heard by anyone, either self or other. If it is heard like this, it will hinder the generation of supreme realization and will be stained with the great sin of refuting the definitive scriptures of the Blessed One. Because the Blessed One emphatically taught in a definitive way that a pot is empty by a pot, and not by a dharma other than a pot, so a pot is not understood to be empty. But you have said the opposite of that. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it says: Form is not empty by the emptiness of form, but form itself is emptiness. And so on, it contradicts. Pot etc.

If each is not empty, then the vase becomes the entity of the vase; if the meaning is empty, then it is established. If you think so, when you analyze the vase with reason, you can find it. (174a) If you think so, you must admit that each particle or collection of the vase is the vase. In this way, even the Vaibhashika and Sautrantika schools do not admit that coarse things such as vases can be analyzed by reason, so how can the Madhyamika school admit it? Individual particles cannot be a vase, because the extremely small cannot become coarse. Some, such as Vasubandhu, say that the consciousness arising from other causes and conditions that are not established by their own entity is admitted as the ultimate truth. Therefore, external objects are the perceived objects of parikalpita, as well as the nature of things, and the parinispanna nature, which is empty of the mind that grasps differences and the grasping arising from the mind, is the moment of consciousness of the ultimate truth, as well as cause and effect, oneness and otherness, etc., just like impermanence, which cannot be said to be that and other. The other-dependent consciousness of all phenomena that appear from form to omniscience is empty of the perceived and perceiver parikalpita, but the other-dependent's own nature is not originally emptiness. There is no liberation in asserting this way, as the Four Hundred Verses says: "Not empty and having emptiness, not seeing is seeing, Nirvana becomes mine, wrong views do not escape suffering, thus the Buddhas said." Also, the scriptures say: "The view of emptiness is all, the Victorious One said it can be released, if one sees emptiness, (174b) they cannot be established, thus the Buddha said." Therefore, the meaning of the second verse is easy to understand. The meaning of the first verse is that for the annihilation of external objects, etc., which are like the horns of a rabbit that do not exist at all even in name, and which have no addition of conceptual thoughts, emptiness cannot be established, because emptiness is a relative phenomenon, like the dependent phenomenon that appears as not empty, which is not established in that way. After the law of dependent origination is completely separated, it is emptiness, so in the world, emptiness must be understood in this way. For example, when the appearance of an image appears, the appearance is empty of its own entity, so it is said that the entity of the appearance is emptiness for the image.
