Because even without a cause, it makes knowledge appear as images, echoes, and mirages, etc. Similarly, the medicines and mantras compounded by magicians, etc., are also external conditions. The cause of confusion for the mind faculty is either formed by the wrong conceptions of external and internal heretics, etc. (155b), or it is an appearance like inference based on what is interpreted and uninterpreted by innate wrong conceptions. Here, some Tibetans say that the difference between Svatantrika and Prasangika is whether or not the Svatantrika school accepts the distinction between true and false in conventional truth as its own system. And they say that even in the Prasangika system, there is a distinction between true and false in its own system, or that there is none in name, all of which is unreasonable. Even in the Svatantrika school's own system, if there is absolutely no difference between true and false in the appearance of the present and the appearance of dreams, then what need is there to mention that the Prasangika school's own system has a difference between true and false? If the distinction between true and false is not established in name in relation to the world, then it contradicts the three-section texts, including the root and commentary. If the Svatantrika school does not accept the name of true and false in its own system, then it contradicts the statement in the Two Truths: "Although appearances are similar, there is a difference because of the ability to perform a function and the inability to perform a function." If someone asks: Although the Svatantrika school has made such a distinction between true and false, that is not the Svatantrika school's own system, but it is said as it is known in the world. In response, its commentary says: "Water and mirages, etc., are recognized by the world as true and not true. In reality, the two are only the same in terms of non-self-nature." And in the explanation, it says: "If there is a difference between true and not true, then things are not self-nature. Therefore, it is said 'In reality, the two are,' etc. If you ask: How is self-nature the same? The answer is: It is said 'In terms of non-self-nature.' And if you ask: Why? The answer is: Because the function is also non-self-nature." If it is not like that, how can the Svatantrika schools prove that all phenomena are without self-nature by using many false examples such as dreams and illusions? Because the examples and the meaning have no similarity. So, the Svatantrika school's conventional truth name
