Even the foundation has not been laid. Emaho, the mind of clear self-awareness! From beginningless time, it has never diminished. Without day or night, it is extremely clear. Clear without wide or narrow, black or white. Demons, rakshasas, yakshas, and so on, Even countless billions of them, Even if they were to harm me, This very nature of clear self-awareness, No one can possibly steal it. Even the many sufferings of hell and so on, Have not erased this clear self-awareness. Emaho (150b) The uninterrupted mind. Even sleep, intoxication, and carelessness, For this ripened body, Beating, binding, and killing, Drowning in water, burning in fire, Animals, gods, humans, and so on, Even though many bodies have been abandoned, Except for moving to another place, Self-awareness has never become inert. If the meaning of the uncontrived, natural state is realized, Conceptual thoughts will clear into luminosity in their own place. The enemy of self-grasping will destroy itself, And be liberated into the realm of nirvana. Samsara and nirvana will dissolve into equality. The demons of dualistic grasping will be cut off at the root. Even if awakened from the sleep of ignorance, Self-awareness will never become inert. Emaho, the mind without substance! From the essence of self-aware self-illumination, There is nothing permanent or essential. It is free from large and small, long and short, and so on. Without colors such as black, white, red, and yellow, It transcends color and form. Neither mindless nor beyond mind. Self-awareness is the very nature of space. It transcends existence and non-existence, speech, thought, and expression. It is free from examples and symbols. It is devoid of all relative phenomena. It is even devoid of what I have said. Emaho, self-mind is the basis of all. Realizing it is the treasure of great bliss wisdom. Not realizing it is the prison of suffering. If you wish to strive for the plain of great bliss, Always rely on the lama, And please him in various ways. Pray with faith, respect, and longing, Generate the mind of enlightenment for the benefit of beings, And purify your own natural mind. Without too much complicated analysis, Relax, let go, and leave it as it is. (151a) Do not be distracted in the four times of conduct. Do not be attached to the objects of the six senses, Do not block, but release openly and directly. These are the heart words of the beggar Zhang. May whatever appears become a great companion on the path of liberation. Thus it is said. Some people quote the passage just cited, saying that the nature of mind does not change, etc., meaning that the nature of mind has no arising or ceasing.

If someone suspects that because (the text) appears to be speaking untruthfully, (the author) has not entered the style of Cittamatra, but has entered the style of Madhyamaka, it is not so! Because (the author) uses the mind as an example to explain that all phenomena of emptiness and dependent arising are like having no self-nature of their own, without change. Due to interdependence, any phenomenon that appears as a real phenomenon such as one's own mind is allowed to appear. Therefore, (the author) is only explaining the profound meaning of Madhyamaka. Then, why is this (reason) only applied to the phenomena of the mind, and not applied to the phenomena of sprouts and so on? Although it is also applied to sprouts and so on, it is specifically applied to the mind to explain that this phenomenon that appears as a real phenomenon is not independently established by the phenomena speculated by the mind's conceptualization. If one understands that the mind is the nature of emptiness and dependent arising, then it is easy to understand that all other phenomena that appear as real phenomena are also like this. If one realizes that all phenomena are in the nature of emptiness and dependent arising, then one understands that all phenomena are separated from the nature of reality, thereby transcending all characteristics of actions and attaining non-abiding nirvana. Those various schools and various treatises from Vaibhashika to Prasangika Madhyamaka, establishing the definitions of the two truths in their own tenets (151b), is not understanding the key points of reason, and not distinguishing between definition and defined. Because the upper and lower schools are inconsistent on the defined of the two truths. Because the defined of the ultimate truth fabricated by the lower and lower schools will be refuted by the intellect of the upper and upper schools. There is no inconsistency in merely establishing the definition and the object to be defined as the two truths in name. If there is inconsistency, then it is impossible to refute and establish whether the defined is or is not through the common definition. Therefore, in the view of all upper and lower schools, whatever is not harmed by reason and can withstand scrutiny is the ultimate truth; the opposite of this is the conventional truth. One's own nature does not deceive, abiding in the real meaning is the ultimate truth; the opposite of this is the conventional truth. The object of the subject that is not deluded is the ultimate truth; the object of delusion is the conventional truth, everyone agrees on this. The defined is: The ultimate truth of the realists is considered to exist after withstanding rational scrutiny. As it says in the Compendium of Analysis and Determination: Suchness exists after.
