Because all things would fall into annihilation and other faults, and would be harmed by the reasoning of Nagarjuna and his son. Secondly, if it is thought that things arise from themselves, then the object to be produced and the producer, as well as the action and the agent, would become one and the same. If they are not one and the same, then admitting that things arise from themselves would lead to the fault of extensive explanation. If it is thought that these fruits arise from themselves, it is unreasonable, because the object to be produced and the producer, as well as the action and the agent, would become one and the same. If it is not unreasonable, then father and son, fire and firewood, etc., would become one and the same. If it is not so, if one wants to understand the meaning of the two truths without error, one should not admit that things arise from themselves. As the teacher said: Cause and effect, if they are one, will never be reasonable. If cause and effect are one, the producer and the produced will become one. And so on, this will lead to the fault of extensive explanation. Refutation of arising from other. The second part includes: direct refutation and incidental refutation of the Mind-Only school's view. The first part includes: stating the former's view and refuting it. The first point is: Here, our own school says that things do not arise from themselves, which is reasonable, because arising from oneself is meaningless. Arising from both is also unreasonable, because one element is incomplete. The view of no cause is very inferior, so refuting them is also reasonable. However, if someone says: How can one look to other things? (130a) This is unreasonable. Because, relying on the scriptures, the four conditions that are different from oneself—the causal condition, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition—are the factors that produce things, so even if one is unwilling, one must admit that things arise from other. Some of them say: The causal condition is the five causes out of the six causes, except for the agent cause, namely the co-emergent cause, the similar cause, the corresponding cause, the pervasive cause, and the ripening cause, because they are definite. As the Abhidharmakosha says: What is called cause is the five causes. All phenomena that are to be individually cognized by the six consciousnesses are the objective condition.

The condition: The Kośa says, "The object is all dharmas." The minds and mental factors other than the mind entering into nirvana without remainder are the immediately preceding condition. As the Kośa says, "Minds and mental factors that arise are immediately preceding, not the last." Therefore, the efficient cause is the dominant condition. To say that the efficient cause is the dominant condition is the view of the Vaibhāṣika school, which speaks of six causes and four conditions. Other Sautrāntikas say that things arise from the four conditions alone. The characteristic of the proving cause, or what exists as the nature of the seed that produces, is the causal condition. Just as an old man rises by relying on a cane, the mind and mental factors arise from the cause, and what produces what is arising is the objective condition, which is the basis of the nature of what is arising. The immediate cessation of the cause is the immediately preceding condition for the arising of the result, just as the destruction immediately after the cessation of the seed is the immediately preceding condition for the sprout. Regarding the immediately preceding condition, the Vaibhāṣikas consider the object that is the destruction of the previous moment of the same kind of mind and mental factors to be the immediately preceding condition, while the Sautrāntikas consider the destruction that is the cessation of the previous moment of the same kind of mind and mental factors to be the non-object to be the immediately preceding condition. The former tenet is better. (If Tsongkhapa says: To say that destruction is an object is reasonable, because the Sautrāntikas say that the destruction of the immediately preceding condition is an object. Then, the way of admitting is different. The Vaibhāṣikas consider the previous object of the immediately preceding of the later object to be destroyed in its own time, opening the way for the arising of the later object, and it is the immediately preceding condition of the later object, and from the place of that destruction, the later object is obtained, from this point of view, destruction is considered an object, but destruction itself is not considered an object. The Sautrāntikas consider destruction to be a non-object, so they do not consider it an object, and the fact that the destruction of a non-object acts as the cause of an object is prohibited by the reasoning of the Yogācāra school, which appears extensively in the treatises of previous teachers. Note: (Because a non-object does not become the cause of an object. If something exists, then what arises is the dominant condition. If the efficient cause among the six causes is summarized as a condition, then it is summarized as the dominant condition. Also, other conditions arise together, such as the sprout and the shadow of the sprout.
