Is it held as a general characteristic, or is it said by holding a distinction after separating? It is not said in any way, because at that time, without examining the limbs of speech, it merely follows the reputation of others to refute, therefore it follows and speaks. For example, when a person who has become a human being together with another mechanical person, by his own action, uses the weapon in the hand of the other mechanical person to have the head of the mechanical person cut off, the weapon in the hand of the person who has become a human being, in the undivided general characteristic of the two truths and the divided difference, does not cut off the head of the mechanical person in any way. Because of what was just said, therefore, the skillful one himself, with this way of speaking to the Shravaka school, admits that the reason is not established. (123n) In your school, all inferences that establish the dharma of things as a reason, the reason, etc., are not established in reality for oneself, and are not established for others in conventionality. If it is not established, then the reason cannot be correct, because it is not a reason that both opponents agree on, so the profound reality to be proven and everything that proves it will be completely destroyed. Therefore, you, the skillful one, say this: In reality, the internal sources of arising, etc., do not arise from other causes, because they are other. For example, like a pot. And, or in reality, the internal sources of arising such as the eye, etc., which others want to say, can establish the dharmas of name and form, etc., and are definitely not the causes of the six sources of arising, because they are other than the internal sources of arising. For example, like threads, etc. Here, the so-called "otherness" etc. is not established in reality for oneself. Furthermore, how does the skillful one say that the internal sources of arising are only arising, because the person who has the objects of the internal sources of arising, such as form, etc., is sitting, walking, seeing, and hearing, so he speaks special names, because the Shravaka school, what others say, this reason, if it is established from the point of view of reality, and wants to say that it is not established, so he says this: If this sign is in conventionality, then it is not established for the realist himself.

In reality, a yogi in equipoise (123b), with the eye of wisdom, sees the true nature of all phenomena as they are. If it is established that arising and ceasing, etc., exist before consciousness, then at that time, because the nature of that consciousness possesses those objects, a special designation is made. Therefore, that reason is not established. The meaning of that non-establishment is that in the nature of that consciousness, movement is also prevented only by preventing arising. Likewise, with that very method of analysis, for the Madhyamika's reason for establishing the proposition made by oneself, there is no movement for one who has not actually gone, because it is the path, like one who has gone on the path. Thus, the reason called the path should be applied to the meaning that is not established in reality in itself. In reality, the eye with its support, the consciousness, does not see form, because it is the eye faculty, for example, like that same. Likewise, the eye alone does not see form, because it is made of the four elements, for example, like form. Earth is not the nature of hardness, because it is the four elements, for example, like wind. In these and other such cases, the reason and so forth should also be applied to what is not established in reality, not established in itself. Again, O Possessor of Excellence, with the reason "because it exists," according to the Samkhyas, because the internal and external sources of arising all exist, like the existence of consciousness, is it something that does not arise from the self? Or, like a pot, is it something that does not arise from the self? Thus, there is doubt (124a), because of the uncertain pervasion. If it is said that even pots and so forth are not directly shown as the proposition of not arising from the self, but because they are established indirectly, it is not uncertain. The answer is: it is not so, because the external sources of arising are taken as the subject, and it is not said in that way. Third, showing that Chandrakirti himself has no fault of contradiction: If it is said that just as the faults spoken of in the inferences of others, O Possessor of Excellence, so too, the faults spoken of should apply to your own inferences, Chandrakirti, therefore the basis is not established in common, and the reason is not established.
