Therefore, because in the common agreement of the conventional world, there is neither fame nor establishment for this (svabhāva), but it reverses all the things to be established and the means of establishing them from the world and creates them anew, it is reasonable. Because it accepts the proposition that contradicts the means of establishment, this combination of the Samkhya school can only deceive the Samkhya school itself, and cannot make other schools such as the Madhyamaka school generate firm belief in self-nature. It should be understood in this way. So, how to refute the view of the Samkhya school? Whatever the Samkhya school uses to establish the meaning of its own tenet is the same as the thing to be established, so it does not have the ability to establish the thing to be established. This itself clearly refutes the Samkhya school's view of self-nature origination. Therefore, in this case of refuting the Samkhya school, what is the need to state the harm with one's own school's inference? There is no need. Moreover, even if one states the contradictions with the Samkhya school's own tenets to the Samkhya school, it is impossible to definitely negate self-nature origination. If it cannot be negated, then Master Sangye Gyang's debate cannot reverse the Samkhya school's wrong views, and Master Sangye Gyang will become the object of being refuted. Therefore, if someone says that the Prasangika school must inevitably state the contradictions with its own inference, then what should be done? Even if one does not state one's own school's valid cognition, it is not that one has not stated well-known reasons and examples in other schools, and it is not that one has not eliminated the fault of establishing what has already been established (109a). This is also what Master Sangye Gyang said. How to state it? Things do not arise from self-nature, because they exist in their own self-nature, just like the manifest vase in front of us, please keep it in mind. Because the great master Sangye Gyang said this. It is said in his treatise: Things do not arise from self-nature, because their arising would become meaningless, that is why it is said. Although only these appear in the Buddhapalita commentary, how do these words show the reason and example? It must be extracted from these words, because "they" in these words refers to

, because it is adhering to the reason itself as having its own nature. If it adheres to having a reason, why is that? Like this, for things that have their own nature, there is no need to be born again, this is called the detailed explanation of the explanatory statement of the brief statement. This statement is to prove things like the manifest vase, which is well-known in other Samkhya schools that are in accordance with the Dharma of selflessness, what is to be proven is selflessness, and the Dharma that has its own nature as the prover. Therefore, for this adherence to universality, it is called having its own nature, which is adhering to the reason. Because being born would become meaningless, this refers to pushing the Dharma to be proven, which the opponent does not want, to the extreme, thereby making them accept it. For example, sound is impermanent, (109b) because it is created, whatever is created is considered impermanent, such as a vase. Similarly, sound is also created, therefore, because it is created, it is impermanent. Here, it is clearly shown in this way that being created is the reason, just as sound is impermanent, and the prover with examples is stated in the manner of a five-membered argument. Buddhapalita also says here that things are not born from themselves, which is like saying sound is impermanent. For things that have their own nature, being born again would become meaningless, which is like saying because it is created, it is impermanent. Just as here, things like vases are in front of us, and it is clearly seen that things that have their own nature do not depend on being born again, which is like saying whatever is created is considered impermanent, such as a vase. Similarly, in the case of clay lumps, etc., if it is thought that there are vases, etc. that have their own nature, then in this case, the thing that has its own nature is not born either, which is like saying sound is also created, therefore, because it is created, it is impermanent. He stated the argument in this way, and in the way of stating the argument, for the logical treatises of realists, there are two ways of stating it, namely, to understand clearly through various stories.
